Hello people...it feels a little odd writing my first post to this group
because I've been lurking in the shadows reading it all for what seems like
ages - and is probably close to six months.

I'm Cellach, female, 32 years old and 6' tall (183cm). I live in the UK. Two
weeks ago I finally decided to make the commitment to my body and lose weight.

I think it's been sheer laziness that has seen me swell up over the years. But
I can, and will, put it behind me.

I just wanted to start posting in order to make myself accountable to a few
other people! I aim to post once a week with my weight - I'm not on line enough
to be able to post my food daily like I see a few here do. I'm following what I
aim to make my WOL - "Slimming World Food Optimising" which I've also seen
referred to here (Hi Janice!). So far so good...8lbs gone.

Thank you all for the advice I've gathered over the past few months - even if
it's not what I want to do it's been useful to see you all talk about what
works for you.

Cellach (who is off to her evening class in digital photography and plans to
walk the mile and a half there and back - got to start somewhere, huh?)

Welcome Cellach,
You're off to a great start by including walking in your daily routine.
It's those little changes we make that soon add up.

Hope to see you posting often.

Hi there Cellach. I remember when I first posted here, because I'd
lurked quite a bit first it felt strange that people who I felt I
already knew from reading their posts were suddenly talking to me.
Congratulations on making the decision to tackle the weight.
I'm interested to hear from someone else who is doing Slimming World.
I like the eating programme, but I have to confess that I was a little
disappointed at the steady 1lb a week loss, which is a bit slower than
I was seeing before on my own WOE of around 1500 calories. I wavered
a bit recently, as I decided to try and unpick the diet by counting
how many calories I'd eaten each day over a few days, and it was quite
a bit above 1500 - and that was without eating half the free foods I
could have had. Anyway, I'm pressing on and doing OK.
Do you go to an SW class? How do you find it as a WOE? Whereabouts
in the UK do you live? Sorry about the questions - don't answer if
you don't want to!
Hope to see you posting regularly.

Hi Cellach!

Posting really does help and there are lots of great ideas bouncing around.
I'm a walker too - it works!

(and today I feel like a grownup because I ate FF cottage cheese for the
first time and liked it!)

Thank you all for the encouraging comments - I've picked Janice's post to reply
to because she's the one that asked all the questions!

I'm really liking the SW WOE - it's easy because I don't have to measure things
and I'm rapidly turning into a fruitbat - fruit just isn't safe round here
anymore .....Maybe when I've been doing it a while I'll want to make changes
like you have. I will know where to come to ask the questions.

I'm not missing anything at the moment - give it time, I guess. I even gave up
alcohol for the most part when I started this. Didn't need to, I just thought
it would be easier.

I'm not going to classes, I just bought the books (incidentally - do you mind
if I email you with a couple of SW-specific questions, Janice?).

I wouldn't mind, but I'm afraid you won't get much response from the
email address I use for this group. I'm sure no one will mind if you
post the questions here, although it seems to be a programme that's
mainly confined to the UK (perhaps start a new subject showing it's
about Slimming World so people don't need to read if they don't want
to).
I was interested in how you managed to get the books without going to
a class. I read up all I could about the programme, including sending
for some books and buying the magazines, but as far as I'm aware the
full list of free foods and healthy extras was only available to buy
at a class, which is really why I joined.
I'm not really a slimming club type of person, and have found I can
lose just as well on my own. I only intended to go to one or two SW
classes, but I went for about 20 weeks and have lost 25 lbs in that
time. I've very recently decided to stop going to classes for the
time being, but to carry on with the programme.
As far as I remember doobrie who posts here sometimes is also from
Birmingham.

I would kill to be 6'0"! Height goes a long way in tennis if you are
looking for an exercise that is fun and burns megacalories when you get
good. Plus, I bet you have never gotten so frustrated that you
systematically went through your home with serious hardware and lowered all
the cabinets. It effectively doubled my storage as I could never reach
things on the top shelves!

Anyway, welcome to the group. One thing I know from being vertically
challenged is that even a couple of pounds can make a difference in the way
my clothes fit, etc. I imagine it requires more for a taller person to
really appreciate the difference.

Exercise is hard for me for the first couple of weeks when I take time off
for an extended period. I get tired and it doesn't seem to have any of the
benefits that it really does. However, by week three, you get to really
feel excited about it and an hour or so here and there can make a tremendous
difference in your day. I used to think I was too busy to exercise but I
find that if I take time away from my work, I am so much more productive for
the rest of the day that I more than make up for the hour I spend on the
treadmill. I still haven't figured out how to exercise while making day
trips out of town which require leaving at 6:00 and returning close to seven
at night to write reports for the next morning. Luckily, the little world
tour I am on now will be over next week!

I love photography. Alas, I am not very good but would love to see your
pics if you have any posted online!

Default Slimming World questions

From: (janice)

I was interested in how you managed to get the books without going to

a class. I read up all I could about the programme, including sending
for some books and buying the magazines, but as far as I'm aware the
full list of free foods and healthy extras was only available to buy

Yes - that was one of my questions! I'm having trouble figuring out exactly
what I can count as a Healthy Extra e.g. does Special K count? Does Raisin
Bran? Can I use a grilled chicken breast as a HE on Green days?

I bought the books from their telephone order line after reading one of the
magazines, but I haven't been able to find a book of HEs anywhere. Currently I
kind of guess......which is going to be a bad thing in the long run.

Yeah, I'm not much of a club person either. There are several classes near
where I live, but I'm not sure yet about checking them out. Maybe if I have
trouble with this plan I'll go along to find out if I'm doing anything wrong.
Currently. it's so easy to eat less than I was eating I think I could be doing
any of twenty WOEs and still lose

Cellach
