What does your doc say about all your pains and dealing with them?

Drug-wise I can take Tylenol and Vicodin, but since they can cause problems
with the liver I try to not take them unless I'm really in pain. For
non-drug treatment I try to keep my back in a neutral position as much as
possible so I don't aggravate my sciatica, and for the heel spurs I tape my
feet and wear custom orthotics. I buy athletic tape by the case! There's
not much besides the Tylenol I can do for my arthritis and some days I have
knee pain all day. I love gardening but I've noticed lately that sometimes
when I squat or kneel down my knees don't have the strength to lift me to a
standing position and I need to grab hold of something to get back up.
Climbing up and down the stairs to do the housework gets to be a real
challenge, too, by the end of the day!

Maybe a garden kneeler would help.

I don't have problems getting back up but my left knee gives me fits if I
put it on the hard ground. I use one of the foam pieces to add cushioning
for it when I work in the garden or flower beds.

Yes I did! I was going to fast all day yesterday but succumbed to a Lean
Cuisine entree for dinner. I think I may consider having one fast day per
week, it might do me good in several areas of my life.

I hope you figure something out, as you sound like you are miserable.

More frustrated, really. I've always been the contemplative type so I do
enjoy sitting quietly and pondering, but I am frustrated with my
limitations. The main reason I want to lose the weight (and swiftly) is the
hope that at least some of my difficulties will ease if there is less of me
putting weight on my back, knees and feet. Can't hurt, might help!

I know when I'm gardening now, I use a knee pad to rest on or a stool
to sit on, in order to get off my knees.

Oh yes, I went to knee pads a while ago. What a relief!

I know I couldn't do it and I won't try to do it. It was hard enough doing
the HMR shake diet for 3-4 months. I couldn't see doing less then that.
This diet is a medically supervised liquid fast... it is what started me on
the road to better health but it is a road I don't follow anymore.

One joke nickname for the Body for Life program is "Potty for Life".
Speaking of which, time to go get another glass of water!

So if you wonder where am I for the next few days, I am doing the tourist
thing.

Have fun! I enjoy being an unrestrained eater on vacation now knowing
that it is for the event, not for the rest of my life. :-)
