I lowered my cholesterol!
Heh.. no seriously.. Just got the call from my doctors office about my
most recent blood work, and I think I am becoming living proof that low-carb doesn't raise your cholesterol and clog up your arteries. In fact, here are the latest results. Start: Cholesterol 368 LDL 305 HDL 36 3 mos ago: Cholesterol 305 LDL 224 HDL 45 Today: Cholesterol 221 LDL 150 HDL 47 I would say that, plus my weight loss, would seriously decrease my cardiac risk. By the way, over the course of the past 7 months, I have totally ignored my doctor's advice to take it easy on the eggs. I probably average 3 a day. Also, high cholesterol runs in my family, and even as a kid my cholesterol was in the 250 range. Just wanted to pass on the news! Dave O 272/221/200 LC since June 1, 2003 |

I just wish my numbers will improve like yours (I was at 280 total, but HDL was 62 after 6 weeks of LC). Mirek |

I lowered my cholesterol!
For those of us prone to Metabolic Syndrome or syndrome X a low-carb
diet is the way to go. The negative components of a person's lipid profile that has syndrome X is directly related to the amount of high glycemic carbs that are consumed and the impact to their system. In other words more carbs, more triglycerides, higher cholesterol, higher risk of heart disease, more weight gain... vicious circle. If not shown already, I think it will be shown that the people most able to lose weight on a low-carb diet have the most benefit in cardiovascular terms as well. The man on Dateline was a perfect example of someone who probably has syndrome X and benefited greatly from the diet in two ways: better cardiovascular health and great weightloss results (I'll speculate.) Once the weightloss phase is over the amount of carbs added to maintain weight and what kind of carbs will impact the lipid profile. Again I'll speculate, but those with syndrome X probably can't increase carbs very much nor can they go too wild or else the cycle starts all over again IMHO.
