Another Ketones ?
I notice that the strips are negative in the morning but turn positive
at night? Is this normal? Also, does this occur the entire time you are on the low card diet? Brian |

For me, I get a strong reading (40+) nearly constantly. I "binged" once by putting real sugar in my caffeinated coffee. I was surprised to see the ketostix report nearly no ketones that evening when I got home from work. Apparently it doesn't take much to throw the body out of ketosis. But most advice I've heard on ketostix stresses taking the test consistently at the same time each day. So I would guess this is to address exactly what you're describing. |

Ketostix only pick up one specific kind of ketone bodies I believe..
if you're showing negative in the morning, and positive in the evenings, it could be all you're picking up is ketones (specifically acetone) from the breakdown of dietary fat.. that doesn't mean that you're not losing stored body fat, just that they aren't being detected.. The time scale for ketosis simply isn't hour to hour, it's day to day. You testeds positive once for the day so you don't need further tests until 24 hours later. Also, does this occur the entire time you are on the low card diet? If you're on Atkins there is one entire week out of ketosis to find your CCLL and then you go back into ketois. On any plan you're out of ketosis while on maintenance. In other words yes with caveats. |

Brian I usually test after dinner each night, after I've finished eating for the day. I'll get a positive reading for ketones in the evening, but then I'll test again in the morning and get a negative reading. Doesn't Atkins suggest afternoon or evening testing? Lee |

Ketones are ketones. The sticks can't tell the difference between dietary fat and body fat. It's normal not to be excreting enough to measure at some hours of the day, though. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |
