program?? I wrote this earlier to a jenny whom I was reffered too on another
newsgroup...

I am really interested in the Bernstien diet? this is my situation... I lost
60 lbs when I was about 15, going from 190 to 130...then gained back 10 on
the request of dietision ...I am 5'9 and now 36 and after 2 kids, back up
there....now I am not rolly polly, but I hate what I look like....an
accident a year ago stopped physical work outs because I hurt my back &
neck...so on went 25lbs....that is my dilema....pretty much back there....at
that awful weight....so I have tried...atkins....had severe sugar
cravings.....wasn't able to stick with it....have in the past done
herbalife, cabbage soup....etc.....but my will power just isn't there...now
here is the whole thing...I can go 2 weeks seriously watching and maybe
lose 5lbs..... So this is why I want to do the Bernstein....what do you
think?
please give me valuable info...not just put downs...thanks I am new...and
really thank you in advance for your replys.....

Bernstein's diet is primarily marketed for diabetics, though it
certianly would work for weight loss as well. You would want to get the
book "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution."

While the book certainly covers his suggested diet, it is not a diet
book, per se. It explains diabetes, the importance of maintaining
appropriate blood sugars, medications, treatment regimes, etc. Diet and
exercise is included as part of the entire treatment of diabetes.

I'd suggest reading the FAQ for this newsgroup as well; it's posted daily.

--
As you accelerate your food, it takes exponentially more and more energy
to increase its velocity, until you hit a limit at C. This energy has
to come from somewhere; in this case, from the food's nutritional value.
Thus, the faster the food is, the worse it gets.

I've already seen posts directing you to the website and the book. Be sure
that you the the Revised version, copyrighted in 2003. The information in
that book is much more up-to-date than the 1997 copy.

If you had trouble with Atkins, you may or may not do well with Bernstein.
Bernstein's program is a lot more specific and regimented, so if you need
routine in your life, it's a good one to follow. But it's still quite
low-carb, so you'll still have the sugar cravings that you had with Atkins.
It's a tough call.

You're 25 pounds overweight, but only want to lose 5 pound? Or am I
misunderstanding something here. Not putting you down, just trying to
understand.

Are you talking about the Dr Bernstein diet which helped Mike Bullard lose
weight? "Medically supervised weght loss...guaranteed" is how their ad goes
I think.
Basically it's expensive, and it's not necessarily low carb. It's shakes and
vitamin injections, and a 3 month waiting list to get into some of his
clinics (Ottawa for one).

Doesn't sound like the same Bernstein diet that I'm on. All I had to do
was read a book. No shakes, no injections. He doesn't advocate half the
supplements that Atkins does, either. His is a pretty conservative
approach.

There are two Dr Bernstein diet's going around. One is "Dr Bernstein's
Diabetic Solution" and one is "The Dr Bernstein Diet" which has clinics.
Here's a link http://www.drbdiet.com/as/menu/mb:Home
He guarantees 16-20lbs of weight lost each month. If it works for you,
great. But I don't think I should have to pay to lose weight.

Deeder, I see you have gotten a few good replies. Just a comment or two.

If you didn't cut out carbs altogether in the beginning, it is very
difficult to get over the hump and get past the cravings.

How I did it was that I ate my low carb food choices all I wanted, until the
cravings stopped. It might take a couple of weeks for that to happen.
Now I can always predict that if I go over the line eating carbs, the next
day I am craving them like crazy.

Carb cravings do go away, but you have to severely limit them in the
beginning.

If you are not diabetic, I would avoid Bernstein. Bernstein,
while very low carb is aim towards diabetic control of
blood sugars.

IMHO, is you can't do Atkins, Bernstein would be an
absolute failure for you. Have you looked in to the
South Beach Diet?
