Default has anyone actually met an Atkins victim?

just curious, we all get people coming up to us saying "you're on that
Atknson thing aren't you, I have an aunt/cousin/sister-in-law who was
hospitalised because of kydney problems on that diet, too much
protein, blah, blah".

Has anyone ever actually met one of these victims?

I know a number of people who 'trialed' Atkins under the supervision of a
university nutrition team studying weight loss. Although nearly all
participants put back on all the weight (or more) due to not being able to
stay on the diet, one male in particular (a doctor) found that whilst he had
great success losing weight, he lost a lot of muscle as well as fat. The
team of nutritionists said this was due a lot to the fact that he rarely
exercised whilst doing Atkins.

So I'm going to learn from these people and exercise regularly and try to
stick to this long term. The first time I tried Atkins, I only lasted six
weeks and put it all back on again, plus another 10 pounds. Hopefully it
won't happen this time!

'Atkins victims' are a bit like the infamous drop bears, yetis and
bunyips.... everyone has heard of them somewhere, and knows someone who
knows someone else..... but if put on the spot, very few people can actually
back it up with a REAL person that can be seen

Personally I think the reason that dieters lose the weight then regain
it so often is that there is no such thing as a diet, there is a
nutritional regimen. Examples would include the Atkins regimen and if
you maintain the regimen for life you are likely to be succesful with
weight control over the same time frame. This assumes that you have
the necessary intelligence to get the exercize component correctly
also.

Yeah, most of the people who say "I lost weight on Atkins but then I gained it
all back" are leaving something out. They should have said "I lost weight on
Atkins but then I gained it all back when I went right back to eating 3 Krispy
Cremes for breakfast, Pizza Hut buffet for lunch, and a quart of ice cream every
night for desert". Whatever diet works for an individual has to become a way of
life instead of just a temporary way to lose weight.

IIRC, this is true of all 'diets' or any WOE that leads to weight loss.
This is why it is so important for people who change their WOE to add
exercise to their daily routines if they haven't already. I, personally,
believe one should add exercise *before* changing eating habits but ymmv.

So I'm going to learn from these people and exercise regularly and try to
stick to this long term. The first time I tried Atkins, I only lasted six

I've been on low carb for 4 months now, and other than my liver
exploding, I have had no serious medical issues
