hi folks

this is driving me insane. wonder if anyone else shares my issues. the
scales. agh!!!

i jump on them probalby 5 times a day. if i dont lose weight, i am
depressed, if i try to avoid them, it drives me nuts wondering what i weigh.

and the days i wake up with a loss, i think. wow. this is easy, i can lay
off a bit today, and put it back on.

i really need to be throwing out the scales dont i.

but dont you need to weigh once a week??

how do you all resist weighing urself all the time?

I weight three times -or more- a day. I keep a record of my weight for
each day. The weight I write down is the one when I wake up in the
morning after a visit to the bathroom. I am just at the Day 30 of my
new diet, so I want to make sure I keep an eye on how my diet is going.
If the weight is below 173, I'm happy. If it goes too far up, then I
will be more careful with the food I eat. Keep your scale because it's
a great tool. Your problem is not the scale. Your problem MAY be your
attitude.

I do the same thing. I like to see that the scale is not going up. It
kinda keeps me motivated. If I see it slightly fluctuate upward, I get on
myself a little more and maybe do a little extra in the excersise
department. Most people don't like to get on the scale because they get
discouraged. I am the opposite. If I stay off the scale, I don't know what
my body is doing each day, and I tend to get slack.

I totally agree with you, Disney. I see my scale as an alarm system.

I hate my scale. When I'm not dieting, I don't use my scale but when
I'm dieting, I'm a scale addict.

FWIW, "frequent weighing" has been identified by the National Weight Control
Registry project as one of the behaviors associated with successful,
long-term weight loss.

However, weighing 5 times per day (and your reaction to it) is probably more
indicative of an emotional issue, rather than a healthy obsession with your
weight loss progress. Your body weight changes from hour to hour throughout
the day, and day to day fluctuations of 2-4 lbs are fairly common, so don't
worry when you get on the scale. It's the long-term trend that's important,
not the daily ups and downs.

Best of luck.

GaryG, in my case, I can weight 171 when I wake up and weight 174 in
late afternoon to go back to 171 when I wake up.

Same spitz, its a really quite a full on addiction. its silly, i know that
you can vary day to day, hour to hour. yet, the urge to know..

I also think getting on and off the scale all day is another way that food
is constantly forced in ur mind. a new day! I'm gonna try resist, once a
day. cheers
