Like I said, I've read all kinds of research on the subject of
negative calorie foods, and the fact remains, they are not a myth. For
every Harvard graduate who says so, you can find 10 other Yale
graduates who disagree. It's the same as saying eggs are healthy /
eggs are unhealthy. Research can prove anything. However, the concept
here is very simple: It takes your body more calories to digest some
food items than that food item provides. Are you suggesting that this
isn't a possibility? I'm a little bit confused on your opinion of
negative calorie foods.

Negative Calorie Foods

Croissants,
french fries
potato chips
deep fried twinkies
cornbread
mashed potatoes
doughnuts

.... there are more, but there are other foods of which I can't think of
the positives about ;-)

I'll add three of the more horrific ones I've encountered:

chili cheese fries (it makes my mouth slimy to THINK about those)
sausage biscuit gravy (I always decline when my Mom makes it on the
grounds that SOMEONE needs to be able to do the CPR)
deep crust meat-lover's pizza from Pizza Hut

But now tell the truth: do deep-fried twinkies really exist? Or is that
just a dietary boogie-man?

Yeah, right.

For every Harvard graduate who says so, you can find 10 other Yale
graduates who disagree.

List a few of them.

It's the same as saying eggs are healthy / eggs are unhealthy.

Well, no. It's more like saying that water will burn if you light it
with a match.

It takes your body more calories to digest some
food items than that food item provides.

Some foods are mashed up and liquefied, but are not absorbed. In these
cases, you are burning calories to digest them, but you are not
absorbing them. About the only cases I can imagine in which this would
actually be a net "negative" calorie count would be something that is
not absorbed at all, like cardboard. The amount of energy required is
only a few calories, so if the food has _any_ calories that can be
absorbed, it does not have "negative calories."

Certainly, things like apples and spinach do not have negative calories.
You get far more nourishment from them than you expend to digest them.
Just about everything that's actually edible is the same way.

Are you suggesting that this isn't a possibility? I'm a little
bit confused on your opinion of negative calorie foods.

I'm suggesting that it's another example of myth and hyperbole blended
to provide fat people with excuses and false hope. Nobody ever produces
a usable negation of calories consumed using "negative calorie" foods.

In other words, no matter how much cardboard you eat, you aren't going
to lose any additional weight as a result. So you can forget the
"negative calorie" stuff.

But you'd lose 'air' weight. this thread is always ridiculous in my
opinion. And it always resyrfaces.

Hello Gene!

There is a list of negative calorie foods available at this link:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/negat...oriefoods.html

This list is considered accurate by many people, and you will often
hear that apples are negative calorie. In my opinion, it seems very
clear that celery would be negative calorie because it is difficult
for the body to digest, but some items are not as obvious as others.
It would seem unlikely that it takes your body more than 80 calories
to digest an apple, but I can only base my opinions on what I have
researched.

This is bull. This is not negative calories, this
is the fact that high fiber foods take your body
longer to digest.

Yep, they exist. They are the new Fair Food in our area, but I have heard
that they have had them in the South for years. You can even buy a "machine"
to make them. I saw it at Wal-Mart. Blech...twinkies are horrible to begin
with. To batter and then deep fry them sounds perfectly awful.

You've read all kinds of research but came here to get a list of them?

Research can prove anything. However, the concept
here is very simple: It takes your body more calories to digest some

isn't a possibility?

You are CLOSE to getting it. Step back a bit from the label "negative
calorie" and let's talk about what foods will make it easier to lose fat
if you eat them. The answer contains the same foods you're talking about,
but not for the "negative calorie" reason, but because they tend to be
high in fiber and high in nutrients and not calorie dense and if you eat
them you're probably displacing other foods that are MORE calorie dense
and perhaps lacking in nutrients and fiber so they are less satieting.

I'm a little bit confused on your opinion of negative calorie foods.

You've got a theory in your mind and you desperately want to believe
it. My advice is to learn quite a lot more about how the human body works
and then you'll be able to make informed choices based on knowledge rather
than blind faith in gurus.
