om...

I feel your pain!

I don't eat any vegetables other than potatoes, so WW has been a
challenge for me too! I'm a bloke too, and I think it might be an
"english guy" thing :-) I have lost 8 stone though, so don't think
us carnivores can't follow WW, it just requires a little more thought
(and you have to read more WW cookbooks!)

Hi Shaun. Thanks for writing, you've encouraged me quite a bit mate.
You've done SO WELL to lose 8 stone! Wow, well done! All without veggies
too? That is excellent. As for the cookbooks, most of the stuff in them even
if it doesn't mention veggies still mentioned other things I don't like (or
before someone says it, things that I don't want to try for whatever
reason!).

I used to be a paying member of WW online, but I never went to the
groups (not my scene, and the hours I work prohibited them anyway).
Now I only use WW to record points, and the freeware palmtop software
and database is enough for me, so it doesn't seem worth paying for
stuff I don't use.

It isn't worth paying at all. I wrote my own database to record my points
and also calculate various things and it does everything I want. My Mother's
points calculator is obviously a necessity too though so I can work out what
food has what points.

The meetings wouldn't be my scene either. I'd like to meet other people in
my situation but at such a meeting where everyone is paying to be there, I
don't really think I'd like that.

I've found the easiest way to maintain the points is go the gym - not
fun at first (10mins on a treadmill had me coughing up a lung), but
after a few months you really get into it (honest!), and its an easy
way to add a free 10 points or more to your day! Now I go for 90mins,
4 or 5 times a week.

I've never been a gym person and my one experience (lasted a few months) has
put me off for life. I had a different instructor one day and he pushed me
so much that for about a week I could barely move. I'm not exagerating-It
was crazy. I couldn't even get out of a chair without a lot of pain because
of what he put me through. I do go for a half hour walk every day though to
try and get myself fitter. I sometimes use the extra point that I get from
that, and sometimes not. I do it more for the benifits of the exercise
really, rather than the points it gives me.

I did find one vegetable concoction worth eating though - 0 point
soup. Although I don't like vegetables, I don't mind tomato soup. My
wife makes this 0 point soup with all sorts of hideous vegetables
(leeks, onions, etc) but uses enough tomatoes to make it taste just
like normal tomato soup. Filling up on this is ideal, and its a
sneaky way of my wife getting me to eat vegetables.

In fact tomato soup (Heinz) is the only soup I've ever had. I don't like
tomatoes but I do like tomato soup and totato sauce! I don't like the tomato
stuff they put on pizzas though. I guess I like tomato ketchup, not sauce.

Also sugar free jelly isn't *that* bad, but my stock snack is
mullerlight yoghurts at 1.5 points each and Strawberry Sun Lollies at
0.5 points a pop. (UK points btw to any americans reading!).

Oh wow SUn Lollies!!! A few years ago my fiance at the time had a gaul
bladder problem and wasn't allowed to eat anything with any fat in. Well
those lollies don't have any in, and they strawberry ones are totally
addictive! We would eat like 4 or so at the same time, and keep on and on
going back to the shops to buy them! I looked up their point value a week or
so ago when I was in Tescos (or is it Sainsbury's that sell them?) but I
thought that at 0.5 point each, I would easily eat all my points just on
them! LOL. They are SO nice and addictive so it's best I stay clear of them.

Good to hear another British meat eater doing WW though!

Same here.

Good luck

Thanks. And to you, keep it up.

Geoff.

I think peas taste nicer than carrots -- maybe now your taste buds have
matured you'll like peas.

Yeah rice cakes are ace! I like them with that soft cheese stuff and
cucumber... but I know that's probably a lot of points? How many points is
cottage cheese?

Plums - 3 for 1 pt
Grapes.
Cherries.
Tomatoes - I eat 'em like apples.
Strawberries - 150g for 1 pt.
Organic carrots are good for munching - yep, I know - a vegetable, but

the
best ones are sweet.
Rice cakes - 3 for 1pt, and less sawdust than ryvita - good for dipping

in
low point salsa etc......

I tried.......

Hi Krys. Oh I wish I wasn't so fussy. Rice cakes are less sawdust than
Riveta? Maybe I'm thinking of something else. I think my Mother has some

so
I'll have a look in the morning. Grapes looks like the best bet from your
list. I'll look up how many I could eat for a point.

Thank you very much Krys.
Geoff.

I don't know that I don't like dirt from the garden coz I've never tried
it -- but it's probably not very good for me. However you already know that
vegetables are good for you, and are not generally poisonous.

Just a question (and I don't mean to sound snarky or mean, or anything,

just
curious), but how do you *know* you don't like something until you try

it?

Like you, I don't wish to be sarky or mean but just to help you

understand,
I'll ask this...How do you know you don't like dirt from your garden? You
don't really know and I don't really know about some vegetables. I do

accept
that I need to try some though, and I will work towards that someday. At

the
moment though I'm struggling enough with other aspects of losing weight

and
also other things going on in my life at the moment.

I wish you the best of luck. You sound like you're managing at the

moment,
but are scared to start expanding your horizons. Give it a go - you

never
know what new things are out there waiting for you

I am just about managing, yes. It is very hard though. However right now I
actually don't even want to eat because of the stress my girlfriend has

put
me under lately! I guess I'll be thanking her in a few months time.

Thanks Julie,
Geoff.

Maybe you should get a Mr. Frosty, and then you could eat ice slush when you
have the munchies. They can't be many calories eh?

Hey Geoff,

I was wondering : maybe if you could tell us what you really like, or

maybe
give us an idea of how a day's menu looks like for you, we could able to
give you some suggestions ?

Hi Nathalie. Well what I used to eat is terrible things like burgers,

chips,
bread, cakes, biscuits (cookies if you're American), etc. All just bad
things like that. I do love chicken though so that's a good thing. Please
don't tell me that the things I mentioned are bad because I know all that
already.

If I told you what I ate daily at the moment everyone would have a good
laugh and lecture me on how I must change it! I know all the things that

are
bad for me and what is good for me. My original post was just for
suggestions on zero points food in the hope that someone would suggest
something I wouldn't mind eating.

The way I see it now is that I hardly like anything, but at least I am
trying my best to lose weight by eating the same old stuff every day. I
don't like veggies or sauces or anything that people are suggesting. There
have been a few suggestions I will try but nothing that involves veggies.
It's all very well for people to critisise me for that but please try to
understand that a lot of what people are writing is actually putting me

off
bothering because I'm made to feel like I HAVE to eat certain things. At

my
stage on life (I'm 35) and at my weight, if I don't do something about it
then I'll probably die before too long. That is the facts of it and I'm

not
going to pretend otherwise. So, I am doing the only thing I can in order

to
lose the weight. I cannot force myself to like food that has previously

made
me feel sick. So many posts here, even though I've said that I can't eat
vegetables, suggest all these various vegetables I should eat. Well I just
can't! Yes maybe one day I could, but right now I cannot do it. If I could
not find anything else to eat that would help me lose weight then fair
enough, I would be forced to try more things, but I am managing on the

plain
boring stuff day after day. I am sticking to my points very well (although
not perfectly) and have done so for 3 weeks now. That is not much short of

a
miracle going by my previous diet attempts. I do not feel like I am able

to
try new things. I want to but I can't bring myself to do it and the more
pressure I receive, the worse I feel because it just makes me angry that
people don't try to understand me better.

Please believe me Nathalie-There is nothing you could suggest I eat that I
would like. I was hoping at first somebody would know of the sort of food

I
like that I could munch on when I really feel hungry, but I realise now

that
such food doesn't exist. The best thing that helps me is water with ice
cubes because I like the water, it's good for me, plus I can munch on the
ice cubes when the water has all gone.

Geoff.

I guess I will tack on here, since this is the current string going.

To just throw this out since your aversion to veggies seems complete -
there have been some studies that some folks have taste receptors that
might tend to emphasize the BITTER aspects of things like Broccoli,
etc. They hate veggies and the taste is what puts them off. It might
be possible that you suffer from this taste sensitivity.

Hi Fred. Yeah you maybe right about that? Interesting, I hadn't heard of
that before.

Your comment about tomato soup might help with Shaun's suggestion.
Tomato soup probably emphasizes the sweetness of the tomato. Maybe
with enough soup as a base you could blend up some glop that
camophlarges other veggies like his wife does with the zero point
soup. Carrots might work well since they also are sweet. Pureed into
soup???

Maybe, but in that case, what would be the point? A tin of tomato soup
is....oh I can't remember but it's quite a few points. Wouldn't I be eating
the veggies just for the sake of eating them rather than to help with my
points?

People keep mentioning carrots and I do intend to try them sometime. I am
scared to but there do seem to be a lot of things I could do with them.

It seems you want to lose so that's a good part of the battle. Good
luck

Thanks Fred,
Geoff.
