Atkins Diet

: What's the general consensus here on the Atkins Diet, or any low-carb diet? Good or bad? Better than a low-fat diet? Anyone here on a low-carb diet? Thanks in advance. Barry My recommendation is to read the book before you go on it. A lot of people get the "hearsay" of what Atkins is, throw out their bread and eat a pound of bacon in a week. That's not Atkins. One reason Atkins gets attention is because it's short-term loss is more dramatic than low-fat, but it levels off. After a year, they are basically the same. I personally know a lot of people who went on Atkins, but only one or two who stayed on it (the people who needed to lose the least amount of weight). The rest went off it and put all the weight back on and usually more! AS others are saying, it's a matter of what you can stick with. Even the basic food pyramid works if you follow it, except that nobody does. Whatever you do, exercise! PS CNBC poll this morning: Has the low-carb frenzy peaked? Yes, 73% -- --------------- "Teach a child to read and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test."—George W Bush, Townsend, Tenn., Feb. 21, 2001 |

link.net: Thanks for mentioning this. I just checked my "grain" bread and you are absolutly right. They used Brown Sugar instead of molasses but it has the same results. Sarandipidy, while I agree with much of what you wrote, most so called "multigrain" breads on the market are not much better than wonderbread. They have a few unmilled grains added and colored with molasses. The real whole wheat bread made from pure whole wheat flour, tastes rather "different" from most breads and is probably not as easy to sell to consumers. So they make fake healthy sounding imitations, inventing brands like "health valley" etc. i One key I look for is fiber. Whole grain will usually have much high fiber content. ANd typically, if it's whole grain, it say so LOUDLY! -- --------------- "Teach a child to read and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test."—George W Bush, Townsend, Tenn., Feb. 21, 2001 |

Interesting. Are you hungry often? I found that after I gave up bread and grains in general, I am less hungry. It is still ongoing. I wonder if you, having added grains, are now feeling hungrier than before. I don't feel hungry no. Meusli is pretty dense stuff, and digests rather slowly. Also, I don't eat very much grain, just some. |
