A poll for successful losers - how many calories do you maintainwith?
This is a poll (suggested by another person) aimed at successful weight
losers who have lost a LOT of weight (gone from obese to normal weight) and who have maintained that weight loss for a reasonable amount of time. 1. What plan did you follow? 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. I'll summarize the results for everybody! Thanks! doug |

What plan did you follow? Eat less, exercise more. I count calories -- no "name brand" diet. I try to eat a fair bit of protein and limit "bad" fats and carbs. 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? Roughly 1600 -- maybe a bit more given my occasional splurges 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 57 now (54 at the start of dieting), female, just under 5'6", before 262, after 132 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. Significant amounts of exercise -- weight training (which I was already doing) and quite a bit more cardio. An overall more active lifestyle. Posting my daily food & exercise to ASD (which may bore the heck out of most of you but which keeps me feeling accountable). A couple of personal trainers to whom I also felt accountable because they really cared about my success. Chris 262/130s/130s started dieting July 2002, maintaining since June 2004 |

What plan did you follow? Made it up. Calorie counting mostly -- you know, the eat less, exercise more, write it all down plan. 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? Dunno. I could tell you what my PDA says but I think that it fudges. For example, I don't weigh apples. If I eat an apple I enter it. 81 calories are added. Was that an average size apple according to USDA? Doubtful -- probably higher. I figure that if I'm consistent that's what matters. Isn't there a difference between accuracy and precision? I think may this falls somewhere in there for me. 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 37 female 210+ before 120- after 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. Weigh daily and log weight, look for trends food log exercise log -- jmk in NC |

Doug Lerner wrote: This is a poll (suggested by another person) aimed at successful weight losers who have lost a LOT of weight (gone from obese to normal weight) and who have maintained that weight loss for a reasonable amount of time. 1. What plan did you follow? Weight Watchers with weekends off option for the first 48 pounds. ELEM for the last few pounds and for maintenance. 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? I eat anywhere from 1,400 to 1,600 calories, and exercise three to five times a week. 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 38, F, 5'1" 168/117 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. Constant Vigilance! Understanding that what I was doing was not a temporary "diet," but a life-long commitment to change the way I live, eat, and treat my body. And support and the occasional kick in the pants from the ASD folks. I'll summarize the results for everybody! Thanks! doug |

Doug Lerner wrote: This is a poll (suggested by another person) aimed at successful weight losers who have lost a LOT of weight (gone from obese to normal weight) and who have maintained that weight loss for a reasonable amount of time. 1. What plan did you follow? I followed the WW plan 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? I maintain on 1400-1600 depending on how much exercise I do 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 1984 - 41, female, 5'3" 155/130 1996 - 53, still female, 5'3" 177/135 (I quit smoking this year and gained weight) 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. I've found I have a much easier time maintaining when I don't slack off on the exercise. Biking is my favorite but I also include weight training, walking/jogging on treadmill, exercise videos, etc. Journaling becomes very important when I find myself with a few extra pounds to lose. I'll summarize the results for everybody! Thanks! doug |

A poll for successful losers - how many calories do you maintain with?
Okay I already shared this info, but will put it here for your convenient
retrieval -- Lesanne 1. What plan did you follow? A Weight watchers plan modified with some additional techniques. 2. How many calories per day are you maintaining your weight on? Between 2,000 and 2,200 part of which is offset by 6 days of burning approximately 250 in exercise. 3. What is your age, sex, height and before and after weights? 57, female, 67.5 inches. Before (distant) 365, before more recent 250, after 159 - 164, for the past 27 months. 4. Any additional comments about what made you successful. Making a committment on February 24th of 2002 that I would attend WW meetings and pay until I got to my goal weight, and that I would not do my traditional lose 100 and quit act, when I had a week where I gained. And then I did everything I read about or anyone suggested to see if it would work. If it did I incorporated it into my plan, if not I tossed it out. I'll summarize the results for everybody!
