Default Day 12 of 100 Days

Day 12 of 100 Days

My scale shows I have lost another pound and that I am now at 233.

Yesterday I had about 830 calories. More than I wanted to have and all
of it was after I returned from a late get-together (ending at about
9:30 pm and leading to my returning home about 10:45). Evening hours
are the most difficult for me, but still 830 calories is below 1000.

In preparation for last night's meeting, I went up my little hill
early yesterday morning and it was very pleasant. Today I am going to
go up my little hill in the evening. My son is working on the Hood to
Coast Relay which starts today (from Mt. Hood to Oregon Coast) and my
daughter is participating in it. There's going to be many, many teams
and it should be a heck of a lot of fun for the participants. (My poor
wife has to take our son to Mt. Hood today and wait for about 4 hours
while he volunteers his time to help the race people.)

I was chatting with a friend last night and noted that so many of us –
myself definitely, absolutely, clearly in the group – almost cannot
help but give advice to others. Even if the person is doing everything
99 percent correctly, we find it difficult to resist giving advice.
Even if they are 100 percent on target, we cannot stop ourselves from
giving advice.

Reminds me greatly of the story about the service being given to a man
who died, and as the pastor began talking in a filled church about the
great service that Bill had rendered to the community before his
death, a voice from the back said, "Give him some chicken soup!" The
pastor was a bit taken aback and a little irritated to be thrown off
stride in his eulogy, so he loudly praised bill and the fine works he
had performed, the fine family he had who loved him, etc., and again
the voice came from the back of the church, "Give him some chicken
soup!" At this point the pastor grew even more heated and even more
loudly proclaimed the great deeds that Bill had performed, said that
his memory would always be an inspiration, etc. "Give him some chicken
soup!" again came from the back of the room. Well, the pastor had
enough of this, spoke to the woman at the back of the room and said,
"Madam, Bill has been dead for two weeks!" "So how could it hurt?"
asked the woman.

But advice too often can hurt us. It can throw us off stride, get us
to do things we shouldn't be doing, and instead of doing things 98% or
75% correctly, perhaps we'll chuck the whole thing and dress in
expando-pants and hang out at the local all you can eat place.

The posters on this newsgroup are doing great! Your numbers are great!
Your methods are effective! And with your enthusiasm, nothing can stop
you!

Let's all keep going strong!

Yours,

Caleb

Do people ski on Mt. Hood this time of year? I agree with you completely re
the abundance of advice, Caleb.

Lazy -- NO skiing on Mt. Hood at this time of year. As a rule, we look
forward to the skiing season starting about Thanksgiving. (Actually,
I've never skied, but I get dragged out for snowshoeing on Mt. Hood
during the winter months.)

Today's a great day here, but for the last few days it's been wet,
cool, etc.

Have a great weekend!

Yours,

Caleb
