I am a retired, disabled University Professor with two vertebrae
being held together with a form of concrete. Over the past three
years, I have had eight surgeries with two more to go. My weight
recently ballooned to 310 (140.6 kg or 22 stone 2). I use to be
6'2" (~188 cm). Back surgeries made it 6' even (182.9cm). And
will start rehab for my back next week (appts. scheduled).

Over the last month I have lost 22 lbs without starving myself.
So I'm now 288 (130.6 kg). If I lose at least two lbs every week
until the end of the year, I could be in the 220's and I haven't
been there since 1972.

What did I do? Well I literally sit in front of a PC all day
and I try very hard not to have to walk up the stairs more than
twice a day. There is NO snack food down here, but I have a
freezer full of restaurant pre-cooked meats. I am monogamous
when it comes to ice cream and will only eat Pralines-n-Cream
which my wife hasn't found in the last few years.

I heavily season foods with garlic and hot peppers. My mother
never used salt and I dislike salty foods. I have found a
Korean food called Kimchi. A small serving when I feel hungry
kills my appitite. If you like SPICY food. it is a winner!

Confessions: I am THE major consumer of diet cream soda on the
planet - as much as 5 liters a day. Ever notice that slender
don't drink diet soda (LoL). I drink too much alcohol, but I
make it myself - primary Mead which is a honey wine. NO, I do
not run a still - that's a felony and it's stupid to run one
inside your house because sometimes they explode. I will make
beer, but over 80% is for my friends which means it is American
Swill which I won't drink. But if I make 5 gallons of a Porter
or an Imperial Pale Ale, my friends won't touch it - so as they
say on ESPN: That means more beer for me.

I have one major strength. If I know I shouldn't eat something,
I won't buy it. I love Franklin Crunch-n-Munch and Spearmint
Leaves and have had neither in over 10 years because I do not
eat them, I inhale them. I will not buy whiskey or brandy
because they will be gone in a few days. I'd make an exception
for Myers Rum if I could afford it. Someone sent me 750 ml of
Jack Daniels Single Barrel and it was heaven on earth, but at
close to $50 a bottle I'll need to wait for another kind soul.

As soon as I've been in rehab for four weeks, I'll have my wife
drop me off at the gym in the morning to do treadmill and leg
exercises, but nothing that does anything to my back until I
rebuild what's left of my core muscles.

Hi Dick. Welcome to ASD.

I'm glad you are going to include exercise as part of your weight loss
plan. But I don't understand not doing anything to your back "until I
rebuild what's left of my core muscles." How are you to rebuild them
without "doing something" to them?

Best wishes,
Neil
