Default Low carb 1 year anniversary

One year has passed very quickly. I remember when my wife approached me
and wanted to start this so that she and my daughter could lose weight.
Since I do most of the cooking, I had to buy in to this plan. Needless
to say, I was very skeptical not being one to follow the latest fads.

But I figured I would be a good sport and give it a try - best decision
I ever made.

To date, I've lost 68 lbs and my wife has lost about 40 lbs. Sadly, my
daughter did not get into the spirit and has lost only 2 or 3 lbs. It's
not easy getting a 16 year old to listen to experience.

Why does Atkins work - well IMHO it's because you're not hungry ALL THE
TIME. On any other diet (low fat, whatever) the constant hunger is too
much for anyone to bear. But with Aitkins (or other low carb versions)
your hunger is manageable and you have the tools to create a life-long
habit of good eating.

(Well, just my opinion).

(Confidentially, I lost this weight without changing my exercise
quantity which is pretty low I'm sad to admit. However, I was able to
finally complete my martial arts Black Belt after 5 years. 68 less
pounds certainly made a BIG difference in my fitness level and stamina).

Right now I'm dealing with a big slowdown in the rate of loss. The first
6 months I lost about 50 lbs but the second 6 months I've lost only
about 28 lbs. My rate now is about 2 lbs per month - if that holds I
guess I can be happy. The problem I have is that this loss happens in
just one or two days so basically the entire month is looks like a major
stall.

(Luna - keep an eye out for this. I really got ****ed too when it looked
like a major stall but boom - one day I was down 2 lbs. This happened
over several months).

I've revised my goal down to 190 lbs since I still have a big belly and
"man boobies" TM. I'm guessing that I won't see a bit improvement in
this until I hit 180 lbs but that's a long way off right now.

I'm now debating with myself if I can reduce my calories and up my
exercise to try to speed up the loss. Man - I just hate being hungry.

Any way, thanks to all in this group over the past year and keep up the
good work.

Spikedad,

I am at my 1 year point also and lost 80 pounds and I lost 60 in the first 8
months and 20 in the last 4. I still have 20 pounds to go for my ideal
weight. I am happy if I lose the last 20 in the next 4 months. It does
seem to get incrementally more difficult even if you eat the same.

Congratulations!! My goal is to lose as much as you've already lost. If
you can do it, so can I! At least I can try my best. :-)

Interesting post. Examining it closer, you refer to diet on 25 lines and
exercise on just 5. This is out of kilter - diet/exercise is a 50/50
thing - what you put in your mouth must either be burnt in activity, or
escorted to your "man-boobies".

Well done on the progress so far, but if you are not exercising enough -
some of that weight loss will have come from lean mass - and your
metabolism will slow down accordingly; you may find it hard to keep the
weight off without reducing even more how much you eat.

Try this. For every 10 minutes you spend eating in a day, spend 15
minutes getting a cardio workout (running, cycling, skipping, anything
that raises your HR above 75%Max) or doing Resistance Training
(weights), or stretches.

Hey folks! Did you know that the contributor of Myra's Cheesecake recipe
on this site is N/A?

Same with Nancy's lemon bar recipe and Jenny's barbecue sauce.

I'm just gonna plonk this guy.

Damsel,
All contributors are listed as N/A unless the person enters in a name for
the person who submitted the recipe to the site. The fact that it has
Myra's name in the recipe is the hint.

All you had to do is ask me to remove the recipe and I will.

The recipes I have added has been publically posted on the usenet for
everyone to see.

I am running a free site with my own time. It has no advertisements and a
great user interface.

I am only trying to help out the low-carb community.

I have never taken a recipe from a website and I have not added recipes that
has been said not to produce.

However, any user can add recipes. I am more than willing to remove recipes
where the author does not want it archived on the site.

Don't let it raise your blood pressure Carol. If the person is on the
up and up they'll make things right sans attitude once you point them
to proper attributions. If they're dirt then give a yell so the mob
can trash them with pitchforks and shovels before burning down the
windmill. Oops, I'm spending too much time with those Universal
classic horror movies again.

I've had intellectual property "borrowed" often enough that I get a
morbid kick seeing a second hander use my stuff as their own. If one
is patient, karma has a way of biting scoundrels in the ass and
letting you watch.
