Not Sure If This Is BS...
Someone forwarded this in a email to me... Kinda sounds like BS. Can anyone verify?
Matty 481/377/250 Mini-goal achieved: 104lbs lost 10/26/04 *No plastics in microwave *No water bottles in freezer. *No plastic wrap in microwave Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in their newsletters worth noting... This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dioxin Carcinogens cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles with water as this also releases dioxins in the plastic. Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle hospital was on a TV program explaining this health hazard. (He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital.) He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, without the dioxins. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He said we might remember when some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. To add to this, Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food ..... use paper towels. |

In this case, I had previously seen some of this information; and Snopes lists it as "undetermined." However, the link I provided gives lots more information. MaryL |

I too have read information here and there about using plastic in the
microwave, or saran wrap and the like. I avoid it when possible. Heidi "Matty" wrote in message ... Someone forwarded this in a email to me... Kinda sounds like BS. Can anyone verify? "Matty" wrote in message ... Someone forwarded this in a email to me... Kinda sounds like BS. Can anyone verify?'' It is BS. I suggest that when you hear something weird like this you hit google and do a search. I went to google and searched for "plastic microwave cancer" (without the quotes). The first thing that came up was an article pointing out that the email you received is a hoax: http://tinyurl.com/v2fg |

wrote: http://www.snopes.com/toxins/plastic.htm It is not BS. The polycarbonate hard plastic bottles such as those large quantities of spring water are delivered in do not leach. The softer bottles can. In 2000 when I developed chemical sensitivities I could not touch any plastic bottles or plastic bags, plastic wrap or plastic utensils. Over the past four years my immune system has experienced enough recovery for my tolerance to increase but I am very cautious about what type of plastic I come in contact and use glass for food storage whenever possible. I can tolerate Glad Wrap but not Saran Wrap. I do well with the type of heavy white plastic used for example in the Omega Juicers and newer Cuisinarts. Only 15% of the population reacts to numerous materials, foods and fragrances but with growing pollution and chemicals in products the number is on the increase. I got a good deal of information and Internet support from a Canadian group of several hundred and a U.S. group that became inactive. The best defense agains reacting was avoidance. -- Diva ***** The Best Man For The Job Is A Woman |
