Default Dog breath

Yesterday a student I was tutoring stopped and said, what's that smell? It
smells like dog food.

This made me very happy, since now I know I'm in ketosis for sure. :-)
But now I have some questions about the famous low-carb bad breath.

I've asked people to tell me if my breath is bad, but nobody ever does, so
I thought I'd ask the group. Is the dogbreath stronger the higher your
ketosis numbers? How long after brushing your teeth does it take for the
dogbreath to come back? I've been using those extra-strong drops - does
anybody know anything better? I hesitate to chew gum or mints because even
the sugarless ones have a gram or two of carbs.

I'm also a little confused about ketosis. Is being in ketosis the same
whether your numbers are 20 or 160? Mine tested today (I finally got some
strips) at 140-160, and I'm wondering if that makes the dogbreath worse.

I must say, people may not find dogbreath very lovable, but my cats don't
mind a bit. They seem to think it's much better than the ordinary human
bad breath. :-) Trusty little carnivores!

TIA,

Chakolate

Yes. The numbers indicate how many ketones you are putting out, and the
ketones in your saliva are what make you stink so bad.

How long after brushing your teeth does it take for the
dogbreath to come back?

Almost instantly. It's not in your teeth, it's in the moisture in your
breath.

I've been using those extra-strong drops - does
anybody know anything better? I hesitate to chew gum or mints because

Consider clorophyll tablets (vitamin store), or Breath Assure. Elsewise, if
it's a big deal to you, you can use sugar free Binaca all the time.

I'm also a little confused about ketosis. Is being in ketosis the same

Debatable. Some say that the higher the numbers, the more water you need to
drink, however, some studies on epilectic children have indicated that
ketosis can definitly be kicked up a notch. In terms of weightloss, it amy
be helpful to think of ketosis as an on-off switch. You're either in or you
aren't.

Mine tested today (I finally got some
strips) at 140-160, and I'm wondering if that makes the dogbreath worse.

Probably.

I must say, people may not find dogbreath very lovable, but my cats don't

Gotta love lower level quadripeds.

TIA,

YWATF (your welcome after the fact)

Jake.

Here is an interesting take on this topic:
http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/ketobreath.htm

I hesitate to chew gum or mints because even the sugarless

If you look at the label on the sugarless gum, you will see that the carbs
are actually "sugar alcohol." There is some controversy over this, but
manufacturers claim sugar alcohol is not absorbed, and thus is not an
"impact" carb (i.e., the carbs don't count, same as fiber).

Here is another article from the same website on this topic:
