South Beach Diet: Did you lose 8-14 pounds in 2 weeks?
I have been on the South Beach Diet for 5 days now and have been
following it closely. The book states categorically "you will lose 8-14 pounds in the first two weeks". This claim sounds a little bogus to tell you the truth. I believe I will lose some weight but I've been on a lot of diets and never lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks. I'm going to wait until 2 weeks is up to weigh myself and see but I'd like to hear from other people what their experiences were. John |

I know people who've lost at well over that rate for a period of time, eventually slowing but still overall losing 2 or 2+ pounds per week when averaged out, and they've kept the weight off for a period of years. In two months I've lost 17lbs and never feel hungry. |

I was an ex-Atkins guy. Got tired of no pasta (lol). I was off of it for 6
months before I started a serious gain back. One year later, I started the South Beach (1 week into it) and have lost 6 lbs in the first 8 days. I am now eating 3 meals a day (instead of the two large ones) and drinking twice the fluids. I DO NOT believe all of the weight loss is water, because my 40 inch waist, has gone down 1 inch already. I am hoping that the South Beach diet, by adding in some of the things I REALLY love, will help me to stay on the diet. I really want to get back to 170 (from the 215 I started at). Mark me a believer! |

I lost 9 pounds during those two weeks on South Beach. I've lost 35 so far
overall. If you only have a few pounds to lose, you might lose less or nothing at all during those two weeks. Phase I is not the diet, just as Induction on Atkins is not the diet. You get off of carbs on Phase I. The diet is Phase II and I've lost 2 pounds a week on average so far on Phase II. I expect that number to do down as the amount I need to lose goes down.
