(Of course, he talked me into going to P.F. Chang's for dinner. But I was very good there and am still within my calorie budget for the day.) He made me think that I have to really look again at how I am eating and that's why I got the scale. I hereby promise to measure everything and not assume that that bowl of whatever is 8 oz when it could be 15. Maybe I am not eating what I think I am. We got a food scale when we first started dieting, and it really is helpful to understand portion sizes. Now I'm much better at estimating but I still always use the scale. I just estimate when I eat away from home. Chris |

Um, you do know this is mostly water, don't you, Elise? It takes 3500 calories to add a pound of fat to your body; certainly you didn't eat even one pound's worth of extra calories. I think you retain water rather easily, don't you? Just keep drinking more; it will help you flush it out. Chris |

Weekend
Congrats, Susan. Yes, we all get stalled here and there, but you'll hear
lots of voices on this NG telling you that stalls aren't permanent and you'll get through them. The main thing is, you're losing weight. That's great! By the way, I like the "stones" thing, as in "I've lost 10 stones." It sounds like so much more weight than a pound sounds. Stones sound H E A V Y. I've lost 75 pounds so far, but I don't know how many stones I've lost. Hmmm...come to think of it, I've almost lost an entire person. Phew. That's a scary thought. Cat |

Thanks I sure appreciate the support from everyone here at ASD, it does
help These stalls are baffling to me. Not just frustrating but I simply don't understand why. There has to be a logical, reasonable physical reason to stalls. Susan 260/219/160 --- 4weeks 17:47hours of being smoke-free, 1,158 cigs not smoked, $214.23 saved, 4day 0:30hours of my life saved "Jennifer Austin" wrote in message ... "Susan Jones-Anderson" wrote in message ... I managed to stay on my WOE all weekend despite some very temping situations. Saturday night we went to a fish fry and for those of you who are not familiar with a fish fry it is where you go to someone's home or gathering place and they fry vats of catfish filets breaded with cornmeal out over open flame in peanut or some other high heat oil. The also usually do french fries and hushpuppies and ALWAYS alot of beer. Needless to say I had 1 piece of the fish, 2 hushpuppies and no beer Fish fries up nort' consist of perch or walleye, fries, cole slaw, and rye bread. Some restaurants are getting with the times though and offering broiled fish and baked potato. The only fish fry I like is when my friend does his walleye with his secret recipe (we only know he gets some kind of spice mix through mail order from Louisiana) and cooks it in a big cast iron skillet on an outdoor burner. Sunday I went to a big celebration at Mark's(yes we are tentatively back together at the moment and it's been hell getting to this point) church ..small local Baptist church.. maybe 100 regular members and they had dinner on the grounds. As you can imagine there was the typical southern fare there of BBQ, Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, and every dessert imaginable, from cakes, cobblers, fudge, Mississippi Mud, etc. All of them to die for. I decided on one breast of BBQ chicken, a portioned serving of pintos and a portioned serving of coleslaw. It was SO difficult to stay out of the desserts. But I did and I am really pleased with my dedication even though I am not losing like I think I should be since I'm stalled currently. I am still very pleased with the fact I am not gaining. Staying on my WOE is so easy if I am at home. It's the being out at functions and events that is difficult. Anyhow that was my weekend, How was ya'lls? Susan 260/219(STILL!)/160 The weekend was good, thanks. Spent part of a day at Cranberry Fest and resisted the urge for a slice of the "World's Largest Cranberry Cheesecake." Got more fresh cranberries for the freezer (they keep for a year) and made a lovely sugar-free cranberry sauce (not the jellied kind) which goes great with my baked potato or my shakes. Also made a cranberry-orange compote which will be done in a few days. Made home made salsa with chipolte peppers, went overboard in sampling it and got seriously ill for a few hours. The Packers won so it was all good. The Cubs even won even though I still sorta don't care about baseball. Your stall will end eventually. Like you said, at least you aren't gaining and you are practicing good decision making skills rather than throwing in the towel - which I've done numerous times in the past. Keep it up because you really are accomplishing something. Jenn |

There has to be a logical, reasonable physical reason to stalls. I always think that too, but I don't know what it would be. I stalled at 210 lbs. for about a month, for no reason that I could see. But then I lost 7 lbs. in the next month, and pretty much continued on down. I frequently stall for a couple of weeks, though, so I don't worry about it. Chris |

Weekend
My new scale is a Salter model 2006. It was $30 at Linens and Things. I
could have gotten a less expensive one, but I liked the very slim line of this one (I can store it vertically next to the plates) and the auto 0 function. They had an even more expensive Salter which measured liquids as well. But that was for baking. Even though I thought it was a cool gadget, I honestly didn't need the extra bells and whistles. I felt guilty enough buying the 2006 because I had a handy dandy weight watcher one from many years ago. I was just tired of the bulk and having to re-set it each time. I spent the morning measuring out little bags of snacks for my son who started his new eating plan today. Very educational seeing what weighed what. I am going to us both use it at dinner as well. The nutritionist did a nice job designing a kid slanted plan. Elise "Jennifer Austin" wrote in message ... "Cox SMTP east" wrote in message ... On a positive eating note, I got a new food scale today. I like it because it automatically sets to 0 after you put a plate, or whatnot, on it. I was whining to Tom today that I was eating within guidelines, except for the one aforementioned cheat, and that I wasn't losing weight like I used to be able to on the same levels 2 years ago. He basically told me that it was too bad, it was the way I was made and that I had to deal with it...he said this as only Tom can (Chris knows) without causing insult but giving tremendous amounts of motivation. He made me think that I have to really look again at how I am eating and that's why I got the scale. I hereby promise to measure everything and not assume that that bowl of whatever is 8 oz when it could be 15. Maybe I am not eating what I think I am. Well, I feel better now having vented a little. Elise. What kind of scale did you get? I'm thinking of upgrading mine. Jenn |

It will recognize that you really meant for the pounds to drop off and begin again. We are asking our bodies to lose weight a lot more rapidly than we gained it for the most part. Just let everything catch up. But why it doesn't ask when it's the other way around, I'll never know. "Whoa - you surely didn't mean you *wanted* to gain weight over the weekend?" -- Walking on . . .
