Default My Dreamfields Experience

I've been eating very modest carb levels this past week since upping my
Metformin so I wasn't sure what it was doing, but when I had some fresh
grown corn on the cob last night (first of the season and an important
annual ritual) I was at 115 at 1 hour. So it looks like the new dose of Met
definitely curbs the post-prandial rise.

I'm hoping that after a couple of weeks on this new dose I might see a drop
in the fasting levels. That would imply a drop in the insulin resistance and
would be very good news for my cardiovascular system since that high insulin
promotes overgrowth of the walls of the blood vessels. That is the main
reason that you want to keep your insulin levels down and why they are just
as important as the blood glucose levels.

Damsel,

You're doing better than I am. When on the strictest Bernstein regimen I
have never been able to get my fasting blood sugar under 95 and this past
year I can't get it under 99. On 1500 mg of Met I'm still waking up at

106
mostly.

That's better than my usual. I was at 100 and 101 the past two days, but

I
woke up at 138 the day before. I also got up much earlier than usual the
past two days. The longer I sleep, the higher my fasting BG is.

My post meal numbers are rarely over 120 at 2 hours, but I can't get that
dang fasting to come down. I'm envious of the people who can.

You're definitely doing better than I am! I'm in the 130s after meals.

Turns out the Relion meter I used to use measured a good 12% lower than

lab
plasma so the high 80s and low 90s I used to think were fine turn out to
really be in the 100s.

How frustrating!

My doctor just upped my Metformin ER to 2000mg per day. I'll let you know
what effect that has on my BGs. Going from 1000 to 1500mg brought my
all-day averages down from the 150s to right about 120. Metformin is

great
stuff!

You had corn on the cob? That sounds so good, but I don't think that's
something my body is prepared to deal with. I'm not going there, but I'm
glad that you were about to enjoy it!

Damsel,

I live near some farms and after spending a couple summers without eating
any of the ambrosial just picked corn decided enough was enough last summer.
It turns out that it doesn't raise blood sugar all that high, probably
because it's all wrapped up in fiber and quite a lot of it passes right
through.

Fresh corn is only available for a few weeks and it involves a drive since
the stuff in the stores is stale and no where near as good.

I've also added back fresh farm-picked tomatoes into my diet without
obsessing about the carbs. My body feels so darn happy after I eat them, I
figure they have to be good for me. g

I'm happy for you, Jenny! :-) I'm not even going to experiment with those
foods anytime soon. I'm watching the mutated vegetable reports with
interest, though.
