True! I could develop a passion for really expensive bikes if I had stupid
money

Well, I think it's less insane if you know it something you enjoy, you've
been doing it for a while, and probably will continue to do it. Then it
becomes a treat of sorts. OTOH, if you're a noob, don't know much about

i wouldn't spend that kind of money on bikes even if i could afford it.
i'd still have a nice bike (i have three really nice bikes as it is) but
i'd be hard pressed to spend three or four thousand dollars on one.

i'm actually quite passionate about my bikes, Pat. i think that
spending so much money on them is kinda crazy, but i don't begrudge
anyone their expensive bike as long as they ride the darn thing.

What kind of bikes do you have? I'm still thinking about bike two, but
since I don't see myself mountain biking, I'm wondering if I need bother as
I already have two sets of wheels.

keep in mind that these bikes are all close to ten years old by now...

road bike: specialized allez epic (carbon fiber frame) with dura-ace
components and a vitus aluminum fork. i'm DYING to ride this bike again
but it needs new tires and i haven't been able to afford them because
sew-ups are expensive, but my ex just told me last night he has a pair
of slightly used ones he'll give me if he can get them unglued from
their current rims. yay!

mountain bike: specialized stumpjumper epic (carbon fiber frame) with
mostly deore xt components and carbon fiber rock shox fork (i think it's
a rock shox...i honestly haven't ridden it in about five years. i need
to get really fit before i'll go off road again!)

touring bike: trek 520 (lugged steel frame) with a mixed bag of
components, nothing particularly special but all very functional. this
is my commuter bike, my "daily driver." i'm riding to work anywhere
from three to five days a week right now, and i'm loving it. it's got a
rear rack on it, so it's easy to just throw all my stuff into my
panniers and ride to work. as an added bonus, on days that i ride to
work i don't come home for lunch and i refuse to stay on the work
premises during my lunch hour, so i usually end up walking up to the
shopping center and back which gets me an extra half hour of exercise
each day.

Default low carb vs. low cal/Bike question

Thanks to all who replied!. I finally tried out the K2 bike, it's comfortable
enough to use now for my purposes. If I ever really get into biking---i'm armed
with info!

Son will NOT even try the trailer bike though....so will have to see what is
going to happen there. Even "bribing" him with riding to see the alligators
didnt work.

Thanks again!
