Sometimes, it's way lower, especially on hot, humid days. BTW, we got our air conditioner working, AND we found the furnace filter! It's only 55 degrees right now, but the humidity is 94%, so the a/c is on. My asthmatic lungs are very happy with this arrangement. My Dreamfields Experience
Damsel,
Congrats on getting your fasting level down!!!!!!! It looks like the Dreamfields does work for you. I just wish I knew how many of the carbs eventually hit the bloodstream--even if slowly so I could gauge how dangerous it is to combine the pasta with a fatty sauce. I get good numbers with the Dreamfields stuff too, but I get surprisingly good numbers with regular pasta too--that's why they've always recommended pasta for people with diabetes. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. I tested up to three hours. At that point, my BG was 118, following a pre-meal BG of 119. But I'll test at 4 and 5 hours then next time I have it. Thanks for the tip. My fasting BG today was 101, which is excellent for me. My take on Dreamfields is that you should think of it as acting like pasta plus precose. It slows the digestion of the carbs, but they will slowly metabolize as they make their way through your system and you may see a slightly higher fasting number the next morning too. That means you do get the total calories and probably most of the carbs. If your current diet plan can tolerate that, great. If you need very tight control to lose or control blood sugar, probably it's best to eat it infrequently. Yeah, I don't plan on making it a regular part of my meal plans. A serving of the pasta, along with a side salad, would make a lovely meal, though. Last night, I ate only the pasta (with butter, parmesan and garlic), so I could see exactly what the pasta alone would do. Next time, the salad will be included. I'm trying this mainly because Crash loves pasta, and won't eat it because I "can't". This only applies to meals. He'll have all kinds of weird snacks. Go figure. Oh! My e-mail reply just arrived from Dreamfields. Boy, they're fast! This is what their message had to say: ----- Hi Carol and thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed Dreamfields ~ we really appreciate it. We look forward to continuing to provide you with great tasting products that are the delicious way to enjoy healthy carb living. We are going to add additional shapes some time this fall so I'll put your vote in for a lasagna noodle!! Thanks ----- Their site said that they're working on a potato product as well as a rice product. You've been having problems losing recently IIRC. And you have a multitude of BG associated challenges. Yet you are experimenting with food that you already know is a problem for you. What is wrong with this picture? Does the new Bernstein book really leave room for pasta in his plan? Susan, Alpha lipoic acid didn't do anything for me and it is extremely expensive. I read a couple of diabetes boards where people reported similar results. Several people developed serious stomach problems after taking ALA too. I suspect ALA may work better if a person is not highly insulin resistant. I didn't get any effect from a prescription drug that is supposed to boost insulin, but I suspect that is because my insulin is already high but my cells are not responding to it. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. Below goal for weight. Type 2 diabetes, hba1c 5.7 . Cut the carbs to respond to my email address! ALA is supposed to help directly with insulin resistance. "Numerous additional studies have indicated that alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is useful for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. ALA stimulates increased glucose utilization in muscle cells and significantly reduces human insulin resistance/sensitivity. This process may occur via an insulin signaling pathway. ALA also helps to prevent free radical cellular damage caused by elevated insulin levels." Jennifer |

while searching for the Dreamfields site to see if they make lasagna noodles (they don't). Carol, you don't have to have lasagna noodles to make lasagna....Use the penne, which will "flatten out" when cooked, and layer as usual.
