Default The thing with coffee

Hi everybody

I'm not sure if my previous posting with the same question reached the
group- can't find it, so I am trying again.

I wanted to know what the thing about coffee is. Some people say it slows
down your metabolism. Is coffee really bad for your diet? (I drink a lot!)

Thanks
JS

Among experts, there are very contradictory opnions on whether coffee
with caffeine is good or bad for you. I drijkn 4-8 European cups a day
(half that for American). Part of that is decaf. I've lost 44 pounds in
7 months, do I'm not worried about its effects on my metabolism. I use
skim milk for my coffe, that makes a significant difference compared to
creamer.

Coffee can make it hard to sleep at night and see the thread on sleepiness.

No food affects how your thyroid gland works. Caffeine is a brain
stimulant and it gives you the jitters if you drink too much.

It might slow down your metabolism, it might stimulate it. It might
increase hunger pains, or it might not.

Every body is different. I can drink coffee all day long but it will keep
me awake. Doesn't make me hungry. For you, it might put you to sleep but
make you feel starving. I don't know. It's just different for different
people.

You will figure out wether or not it's something you should drink, or not.

I've been into body building a bit over the last few years and the wisdom
from that part of the world at least says coffee and caffeine are not really
an issue. Diets I've seen put no restriction on coffee intake, and those
guys are super-obsessed about what they put into their bodies.

In fact caffeine in conjunction with ephedrine is used as a fat loss
supplement by some bodybuilders. Some of the studies:

Hobbs L, Ford EH, "Ephedrine & Caffeine: The Ideal Diet Pill?", Irvine, C.A.
Pragmatic Press (1996)

Astrup A, et al. "The Effect of Ephedrine/Caffeine Mixture on Energy
Expenditure and Body Composition in Obese Women." Metabolism: Clinical and
Experimental (1992).

I'm not into the supplement side so much, but I have not eliminated coffee
from my diet and have managed to lose body fat ... as well as put on a bit
of little muscle

So relax and have a cup. Any effect I imagine would be negligible to the
real battle ground which is, in my opinion - number of calories consumed.

I have to correct myself. We all know that if you don't get iodine in your
diet, you get goiter which is a swelling of the thyroid gland. However, it
has nothing to do with how your thyroid regulates your metabolism, IIRC.
