living on calorie restricted diet (1500 or so calories

There's better evidence for that than for practically
any other intervention. Maybe more evidence for it
than all other interventions combined!

I think this conclusion will be reversed when researchers
realize that sarcopenia and osteopenia are much greater

When there is disuse atrophy. This does not occur with
modest reduction of food intake.

Are you really a physician? Elderly people atrophy WITHOUT
REDUCTION IN FOOD INTAKE. It's called sarcopenia.

Keep in mind that Chung is the "Two-Pound Diet" guy.

Wow, I'm impressed. I did not realize we had such an
illustrious scientist in our midst.

Mostly because they are inactive.

References?

Jack LaLanne doesn't show too much atrophy even at the age
of nearly 90.

No, it's more than that. Even Jack LaLanne has lower LBM than
he did when younger. Athletes that continue to compete lose
strength as they age. The best the elderly can do is combine
activity and protein supplementation, but still tend to lose
it over time.

Actually age results in a negative nitrogen balance regardless of protein
intake.

The only way I know of to minimize it is regular strength training exercise.
It would be nice to never age but at this point, the best we can do is age
gracefully.

There's no reliable evidence as to the location of either grave.
