Bonjour,

Just a note to inquire about what everyone here snacks on. Either
inbetween meals or as a complement/dessert to your meals. Here's a list
of what I've been snacking on lately:

slices of almost-ripe mangoes (I hate the mushy stuff)
Wasa Fiber Rye Crispbread
Wisecrackers (Partners brand cracker)
grapes
all-natural applesauce (without lye!)
dried cranberries
boiled peanuts (peanuts bought raw and then boiled until soft in water)

Any suggestions on other kinds of snacks? Or any criticisms on these
snacks? Just thought I'd share!

HS

Yogurt

Cottage Cheese

sardines

beef jerky and pears mmmmmm

air popped pop corn

cheese and apples

pretty much anything I would eat any other time just in smaller portions.
I tend to keep my snacks in an area of 200 - 300 cals.

How do you cook that roasted seaweed? Just curious. We have a store
that sells seaweed salad, maybe I will buy some and roast today, I
have some food shopping to do.

i dont roast it, it's already prepared and ready to go.

What's wrong with carbs? I am not an adherer to the whole carb craze (I
tend to be skeptical of "fads") and think good, steady caloric intake
does the trick.

Except for the nuts, everything else is primarily carbohydrate.

I'd suggest including a little protein and fat with each meal/snack
for better satiety.

Examples:

o Sliced apple or pear dipped in nut butter or yogurt
o Diced mango mixed into plain yogurt
o Turkey breast or tuna fish on crispbread
o Cottage cheese w/applesauce
o Salad with oil & vinegar dressing, 2-3 oz turkey breast/tuna/shrimp
o Hardboiled eggs
o Handful of walnuts and dried cranberries

I've had roasted seaweed, although I am a bigger fan of roasted kelp.
It's salted with seasalt and has a bit of oil in it. I find them at the
local Korean grocer here in NYC.

Rice crackers are great, but I feel as though they are "empty
calories." I pop them like candy!

Pork Fu is good, especially with some steamed rice. It leaves my mouth
a bit too thirsty, though.

i guess it depends on how my calories look at various points in the day.

--"light 'n fit" yogurt with 2 tsp. or so granola
--one sliced apple with cinnamon on top, microwaved
--one banana, maybe with cinnamon
--"smoothie" made of banana and frozen berries w/out added sugar (maybe some
protein powder)
--about 3/4 cup of any low-cal whole grain cereal w/ 1/2 cup skim milk
--granola bar
--toast w/ apple butter and cucumber
--serving of tortilla chips w/ salsa
--strawberries w/ 1 sugar packet (THE BEST SNACK EVER)
--small piece of chocolate
--nuts (though not as much anymore because they are so high cal)
--grapes
--one turkey hot dog w/ ketchup and mustard (no bun)

sometimes, the way i do my meals, i have a meal-type snack (like 200-250
calories) of rice or grilled cheese or something.

honestly, though, i couldn't get through the day on some of your snacks. wasa
fiber rye bread, with nothing on it, doesn't sound like it would fill me up for
even 5 minutes. i at least need 100-150 calories, or a large amount of
something like fruit, at one time or i'll just be snacking all day.
