I don't fly much either, but I will be flying quite a bit in Nov, Dec and Jan. (Trip to a wedding in the North Island, then another one to Australia over New Year.) I can't stand the lightweight pap that gets passed off as "in-flight reading". Miche -- If you want to end war and stuff you got to sing loud. -- Arlo Guthrie, "Alice's Restaurant" |

.4... "Lindabird" wrote in : I, too, like children's/young adult literature. I've read the Artemis Fowl series as well as the Potter books. "Holes" was good, as was the "Remnants" series by K. A. Applegate. I highly recommend them all. If you like those, check out Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. Thanks for the suggestion - I just ordered the first 3 from half.com ... I'll see how I like them! -- Bird ============================ Contact me at lindabird --- a t --- musician dot o r g |

Just finished 'Elizabeth: The Struggle for the Throne' by David Starkey - a little dry, but interesting with some new insights. It did leave me wishing that he'd continue his work and write something on her later years. Also recently finished 'Drowning Ruth' by Christina Schwarz. I hadn't expected to like it, but picked it up at a yard sale and was pleasantly surprised. Picking up 'White Oleander' by Janet Fitch next. Liz 5'8" 215/171/135 lc started: Jul 9 '02 |

In article , (The Queen of Cans and Jars) wrote: I'm reading several things, some "mind candy" and some serious material. I'm reading "The Diagnosis and Correction of Vocal Flaws" as serious material (e.g., work-related). As non-work serious material, I'm reading "What's at Stake on Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which is sort of a series of thesis-like commentaries on the social implications of the series. Ok, I'm a theoretical geek. On the mind-candy front, I'm reading Martha Grimes' "Foul Matter." So far, so good. Hi, Nancy --- saw your posting & have a follow-up for you... Foul Matter has been described in print as a burp that never happans... what do you think of it? Have you read other tomes from MG, such as the Inspect. Jury novels? Another question... can you give me an idea where one finds the Buffy commentaries, I'd like to have a go at that. And, do you know that Buffy still lives? Season 8 is being offered (in transcript form only) on the net. Schalti, Berlin 17.10.23003 |

Thanks for the info – I have FM on the shelf and will need to read it
as soon as The Grave Maurice has turned "the last lap". My impression is – in this book and in FM - MG is finally getting back to a state of giving some concern to terseness, a tendency that she displayed admirably in End of the Pier About Buffy – yes, it is a small group of fans who are writing the scripts . Over the last year I have been downloading the transcripts of the first seven years and Season 8 continues without skipping a beat. Very professional and very entertaining. Their website also looks professional, you can have a look at Season 8, episode 1 at this URL: http://www.childrenofthenightatsbtvs...=&threadid=996 And, thanks for the tip about the Buffy Commentaries… Schalti, Berlin 19.10.2003 |
