Default : Breyers Carbsmart Ice cream

I found the Breyers Carbsmart at Big Y in Greenfield, MA. It is not in Stop
& Shop.

It tasted very good. It raised my blood sugar higher than a truly low carb
food would, and very quickly, but not to a dangerous level. I hadn't taken a
baseline reading before eating it so I don't know exactly how much of a rise
it caused. Two hours after eating it, I went to a lowish blood sugar, which
indicates a reactive swing caused by my body over producing insulin. The
reactive blood sugar downswing I got after eating the Carbsmart was 30
mg/dl! That's intense. This tells me that people who are not diabetic may
get hunger cravings after eating this food, even if it doesn't raise blood
sugar high for them.

The impact on my blood sugar was much greater than the "impact carbs" would
suggest since 2 or 3 grams of carbs will only raise my blood sugar by 10
mg/dl with no reactive swing afterwards.

Another area of concern is that the second ingedient listed right after
"milk and cream" is "high fructose corn syrup." There's more corn syrup in
this ice cream than, cocoa. Since high fructose corn syrup goes directly to
your liver where it turns into the "bad" LDL, I really; wish they'd just
used plain old sugar.

Also, I have to be a bit suspicious of the carb counts with corn syrup as
the second ingredient. What about the carbs from milk and cocoa? Are they
being counted?

Bottom line: It tastes very good. It's easier on the blood sugar/insulin
than regular ice cream. But it is NOT as quite as low carb-wise as the
labels say it is. It might cause rebound hunger and/or stalls because of
this.

Use with care!

I found Breyer's low carb ice cream & bars at Publix here in Florida.

Bought
the strawberry last week and the bars today. Both are really good. BTW,
there was NO ice-cream today (they had all 3 flavors last week) and I

bought
the only box of ice cream bars they had today. Oddly the box was turned
sideways and I didn't notice it at first. My 20 year old son, who is not
dieting, liked the strawberry ice cream. He hasn't tried the bars yet and

I
may hide a couple for myself before he gets to 'em.

Right now winn dixie has it on sale $3.00.

All I found was a wiped-out-empty shelf where 3 flavors were supposed
to be at WalMart. Maybe next time.

Don't know if you have Safeway near you but a friend said she got them
2 for 5.00 there plus they had some Klondike low carb stuff. Breyers
and Klondike same company.

Peace
