The reason for it is that my son cannot eat all ice cream anyway, so the mountain of ice cream above the cone makes a huge mess when it finally melts. Plus I do not think that eating so much ice cream is good for him. I have not had ice cream in 4 years and do not finish his ice cr5eam. All that they have to do, is press the ice cream machine lever for a little bit less time than normal. Guess what, 3 times out of four they are uncapable of doing just what they were asked a minute ago, their brains are fully turned off. i |

I know that their machines can dispense less than the full amount, because I saw them dispense less when they actually listened and thought about it. Most of the time, they just do not think. You may enjoy throwing food away, but I do not, I prefer to ask for lesser amount. i |

That's not even 20% of the total calories. She's taking out a lean portion of the meal. What is left behind is quite likely fatter as a consequence. Say, what if I / want/ to eat 490 calories, with only 8 grams of fat in it? Skip the hoisin sauce? Nothing wrong with that stuff. I have some in the fridge and use it from time to time, and only maybe a teaspoon to a tablespoon at a time. A 400 gram jar lasts me a year. She must be confusing hoisin sauce with the fatty sauces used in the other restaurants. The chief constituents of hoisin are sugar, water and fermented soybean paste (i.e. something similar to miso). Oh yeah, real killer stuff! One whiff and you put on half a pound. Other stupidity in the article: ``[A] woman dines typically dines out five times per week.'' What? Maybe it describes cow who penned this claim, without any sort of citation to back it up. ``Choose brown rice-it's lower in calories than fried varieties ...'' Is it rational to compare brown rice to fried rice??? Of course fried rice has more calories, since it picks up oil. You can fry brown rice too. I'm guessing that she is suggesting that white rice is fried in order to imitate the color of brown rice, which isn't the case. There isn't any deception: it's a traditional meal. (Actually, the brown tint mostly comes from the soy sauce rather than the frying). Now let's think about the idiocy of the suggestion that at an ``Asian'' place where you are supposedly ordering shrimp stir fry, you should request brown rice instead of fried rice. Okay, first of all, they won't have any brown rice in the back. Someone would have to be sent on an errand to go buy it. Even if they have it, it won't be cooked. So you're looking at a 50 minute wait for that. Your best bet would be to cook your own brown rice at home, bring it in a plastic container, and just order the stir-fried shrimp. |

The best tip on eating out that I have heard, and that I continue to
hear repeatedly from the full spectrum of experts is to ask for half of your meal to be wrapped up to go before it ever gets to you. All of the portions everywhere are so out of control. The worst that will happen is that you will under eat a bit and have to eat your doggie bag sooner. |

The salads are awful. Even the new trendy ones are mostly white lettuce. I do eat out often at Whole Foods where all ingredients in their takeout are listed and there are some tasty and unusual choices, many many of them. There is a nice sit down area in our Toronto WF. CNN had a discussion on fghting back aging which will be repeated over the weekebd and they mentioned The Okinawa Diet whch was discussed on this board many years ago. Longevity in those who eat this way is attributed to the fact that they only eat 80% of what's on the plate. I imagine we can assume the original portion is moderate. Diva |
