Default S.B Low Carb Diet-2 weeks only lose 8LB?!

Hi..all,

I've been following the South Beach Low Carb Diet since 5/3/04 (Day 1).
Now, I am in phase 2!

In phase 1, I have cut down my favorite food such as Rice, noodle,
bread, pasta, corn, and potato stuff......(well..not "cut down"...
I mean...I DO NOT eat them during this SB diet)

For my daily meal, I usually eat:
breakfast: 1egg + 1~2 lean ham + cheese
lunch: Vegi + ham + water
Dinner: fish (salmon), vegi, pork, beef..
3 Snack breaks: nuts, 0 carb/sugar free jelly

However, in phase1 (2 weeks period), I only lost 8LB(about 4 kg) in
14 days. As for the SB, it said it can lose up to 13LB. Am I in the
right track? Or is there anything that I should do to improve my
weight loss process?

Can anyone of u who are also in SB diet give me some suggestions?
And tell me more about your diet experiences?

Thanks!

Elva

You say that like it's a bad thing.

As for the SB, it said it can lose up to 13LB.

Eight pounds is a lot in two weeks -- congratulations! How much do you need to
lose altogether? The *up to* 13 pound figure probably is for people who are
very, very heavy. If you've got 80 pounds or less to lose, 8 pounds is a good
loss. There are dangers in losing too quickly, and what you really wanted to
do during the first 2 weeks was to break your carb habit and establish a new
way of eating. That process also causes a *relatively* large weight loss in
many people, but it really sets the stage for the way you'll be eating for the
rest of your life. Also, if you're female (which I'm assuming), hormones will
affect how you lose within a cycle.

What you listed looks fine, although if the ham is salty it might be causing a
bit of water retention. And the more vegetables, the better. Are you
exercising? Exercise is extremely important for weight loss and health in
general.

I've been following mostly South Beach. I lost a lot of weight at first, and
now that I'm close to goal, it's been much slower. That's normal for most
(maybe all) diet plans, though. I dropped sugar separately, and lost 8 pounds
almost immediately, then nothing until I started full low-carb a couple of
weeks later. During the next 2 weeks, I lost 5 pounds, which put me halfway to
goal (26 pounds).

Just hang in there. The third and fourth weeks are often a bit slow compared
to the first two weeks, but then things pick up again for most people.

I'm sick of this -- OK, 8 pounds was terrible. Absolutely terrible. I
recommend not continuing.

I'm just obsessing -- I biked a heck of a lot last year and lost 30 pounds
for the YEAR. You've lost at a rate that surpasses that, and I worked my
butt off. So, be happy.

Default Newbie - S.B Low Carb Diet

Hi everyone,
I'm Olena, and I'm a newbie.
My hubby and I am trying to follow the SB diet -- today is day 1
I did not buy the book, I'm getting all my info online. (Do I really
need to buy the book?)
I wanted to know what vitamins/supplements everyone is taking. Anything
specific, or is the Wal-Mart one a day ok? My husband is trying to get
me to take amino acids too.
I'm glad I finally jumped on the LC wagon -- I hope it works for me as
it did for most of you

Ah, "up to" the oldest advertising trick in the book. Zero is included in
numbers "up to" 13lbs.

No, you need to read the book. Go to the library if you don't want
to buy a copy, but you do need to get a foundation of why it works and
how it works so you can make sensible alternative choices for
yourself.

I wanted to know what vitamins/supplements everyone is taking.

A simple one-a-day is fine. If you are increasing your dark green
veggies, you may want to cut back on the iron supplement (a slight
possibility of overdosing on iron). Centrum Silver (or any
formulation for those over 50) dosen't have iron.

You may also want to watch your potassium/magnesium/salt intake--
lowcarb diets are diruetic and you tend to flush some of these
electrolytes. If you feel tired, run down, draggy, light headed,
dizzy, muscle aches, even though you know you're past the 'cab flu'
stage (where you depelete your glycogen stores-- it happens within the
first few days), it may be because your electrolytes are low
(especially during the summer when we sweat a lot more). You can take
supplements in pill form (and potassium by Morton's Lite Salt Sub) or
increase electrolyte rich foods, or you can mix up a batch of lowcarb
'gatorade'. Google the group for recipes.

About amino acids. Lots of interesting information available these
days. I know that l-glutamine works wonders for stopping sugar
cravings, and one poster says it helps increase his mental acuity.
There are others that help with other things. Check the L-glutamine
thread that has been running recently for more information. (In fact,
bookmark this page:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=AL...ARB&ie=UTF-8&o
e=UTF-8&hl=en as you'll refer to it again and again in the comming
weeks).

I'm glad I finally jumped on the LC wagon -- I hope it works for me

as
it did for most of you

Good eating.
