Walking vs Running

... In article , George wrote: "Ignoramus14977" wrote in message ... visualize walking vs. running. When you walk, your center of gravity stays on the same plane. You barely lift your feet off the ground (maybe 1 cm or so if you practiced walking) When you run, you jump up and down a little with every step. That's much more work per mile. Yes but when you run a mile it is over much quicker than if you walked it. If you re-read my argument, it was not about speed at all. It was about energy spent per one step. Think again. Running consumes much more per hour than would be implied by the difference in distance covered. i As I say I'm just quoting what I've read or heard which says running a mile burns the same calories as walking a mile. ymmv. |

Walking vs Running
It might seem that way but running = 110 calories/mile, walking 4 mph
80 calories/mile (150 lb person). Apparently running is less efficient (burns more calories) than walking. Try looking at some of the calorie counters on the web. Here's one: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html "Joe3000" *o*m wrote in message ... If you walk 3 miles will you burn off the same cals as running 3 miles? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
