Default Tomatoes?

So, after doing so well and getting down to 132.5 I had my first scare with
what I think may have been water retention. I'm not sure - I think I need
somebody to clarify what happened to me.
I don't think I've had a tomato in months (I go through food phases), but a
few days ago I noticed 2 red tomatoes in the garden, so I ended up having
tomato/cucumber salad for lunch two days in a row. Since I'm stil trying to
figure out what affects my weight I'm still weighing myself in the morning
and night for a bit. I've been eating what I normally eat - the only thing
that is different is the tomatoes. Weight shoots up to 135 yesterday
morning. Of course I freak out and a pox on all tomatoes!
Obviously, I'd still like to eat tomatoes. I read the whole "Fasting
Challenge" thread which quickly turned into the tomato thread and everybody
seems to hold tomatoes in such high regard.
I'm back down to 132.5 today - but I need to know how I should approach this
whole tomato situation. I find it hard to accept that I just put aside the
tomatoes.

Tell me again why you are weighing yourself every day because it's only
going to make you crazy like this.

I'm just doing it for a week to see how it fluctuates. I hadn't weighed
myself for about a month before now.

Sort of like watching the stock market too closely. Daily fluctuations are
normal, but only the wise will look at the long-term.

Take a deep breath and relax. Your weight fluctuation is probably a normal
thing, and is most likely not caused by tomatoes.

While developing my "WeightWare" weight and health diary
(http://www.WeightWare.com ), I've studied my own daily weight fluctuations
for the last 6 months or so. I weigh myself each morning (sans clothing) on
an accurate digital scale, and often see daily fluctuations of 2-4 lbs.
Overnight variations of 2 lbs are also common (i.e., I wake up weighing 2
lbs less than when I went to sleep).

These fluctuations can happen for a variety of reasons - hydration levels,
bowel movements, menstrual periods, etc. (or, that carton of Ben &
Jerry's!). As others have pointed out, it's the long term trend that is
most important.

BTW - if you're motivated by the numbers, and want some software assistance
to see your weight and body fat trends over time, you can download a free
trial version of WeightWare from the web site.

Gaining and losing a few pounds in a couple of days is water
retention, not a true weight issue. Did you put a lot of salt on the
tomatoes and cucumbers? Obviously, you didn't eat 8000 calories of
tomatoes and work it off the next day.

If you were working in the garden, you might have merely puffed up
some water retention from the heat. A lot of people mention
inexplicably retaining water in hot weather.
