Snapple: "healthy juices" or just loads of sugar and water?
"Ignoramus1857" wrote snip I bet with fresh (meaning not boiled) fruits the pancakes will taste even better. Definitely give it a try, I will try it one day too. i Sure! I've shredded fresh apples into pancakes for years. Yummy! -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |

"Ignoramus1857" wrote you can mash fresh squash in the blender. no need to bake/boil. The pancakes with squash added taste awesome. Tried and true recipe, not some recent kooky invention. i I think baking gives an additional nutty, roasted flavor to butternut squash. If I was using zucchini, I'd just shred it raw. -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |

on overly sweet foods. We boil fruits to make a sweet drink (without sugar) for our son. My kids like the fresh or frozen fruit smoothies I make for them. I take a whole banana (preferably frozen - I peel an overripe banana and then stick it in the freezer), a few fresh berries, a "dollop" of plain yogurt, and blend. It contains no refined sugar, and the freshness of the fruit is still there. If I use a fresh (not frozen) banana, then I use frozen berries to complement the banana. It gives it a milkshake feel. It's possible also to forego the yogurt for those who don't do dairy, and just do a bit of water, until the blender can process the food without growling at you Crafting Mom http://ca.photos.yahoo.com/craftingmom2001 Modified WOL since spring '02 || Weight at start: over 250 lb Today's weight: 180.5 lb || Goal/Maintenance: 140 lb |

In Russian it is calle "kompot". Just a bunch of fruits that you boil for a while -- apples, pears, prunes, whatever you have. We used to throw the fruits away and used the drink only. I tried mashing the fruits in a blender, adding flour and an egg, and making pancakes out of it. The result tasted great, my son ate like 5 pancakes in a row. (he is not a big eater and is 2 years old) what a TERRIFIC idea! i am constantly throwing away fruit that is "going south"..................... i bet i could mash and freeze until needed. By the time I discover my fruit shoved behind something in the fridge it's gone a lot farther than southg I love my new fridge for that... the fruit bin is clear in the front and on top. So I can see whatever is in there. Mine are clear too but when people take things out and put them under or behind something else it's a little hard to find them Besides we eat out more than we do at home so I'm not in the fridge all the time. |

"JayJay" wrote in message ... Its the Betty crocker recipe. Right out of the book, but subbing the flour and sugar for whole wheat and splenda. Everything else equal. Betty Crocker is one cookbook I don't have |

there's a snapple without sugar? is that possible? My absolute favorite is Snapple "Just Plain Tea". It has caffeine, flavor and no sweeteners (and hence no calories). I love it. I can't find it anywhere. It's not even sold with the diet Snapple stuff for reasons that elude me. Wendy, who *hates* "sweet tea" |

My grandmother came from a family of Russian Jew heritage. She used to make "compote" by throwing leftover bits of fruit in a glass jar with rum on top of it. We'd put it on top of ice cream or cereal. I haven't thought of that in years. I wonder if she spelled it "kompot" and I just didn't realize it? Wendy |

I've heard of commercial iced teas on other groups being called "brown lemonade", and it's pretty much what it is. It's so sickeningly sweet. I make my own iced tea with those new fangled things they have in stores ... I think they're called "teabags" ;-) Steep the tea until done, refrigerate, add a small lemon twist.
