Jeez.. Only in America.
I was reading in a magazine I subscribe to, that some woman from England,
who had just moved to the states, wrote the editor and complained about

the
large serving sizes here in America,

...lady was exactly right, and not slamming "America". I think
there is something like 60% obese in this country now? Disgusting...

Latest statistics are about 65% are overweight; over 30% are obese. And the
problem is not just in this 'country', but applies to North America as a
whole.

health, and for my husband's eyesight grins

It should be noted that England has the fastest growth of obesity in Europe,
with 75% of the population overweight and over 20% obese. Their weight will
soon will catch up to the 'ugly Americans'.

While this seemed like a true story, I noted a flaw. Social Security
disability payments are made on the 3rd of the month, not the 1st.

The whole story could be bogus. When was the last time you saw a store with
TEN scooters?

Sounds like a few of them could use the exercise of walking up
and down the aisles.

He MUST have been in Wal-Mart where I was last night coz I
noticed the same thing myself. *sigh*.
If they would stop supplying those electric scooters then they would HAVE
to walk. Any seriously handicapped person would have their OWN scooter or
wheel chair
to get around in. And being obese IMO is not a handicap.

What is this country coming to?

I dunno...
I saw the same thing at Wal-Mart last night.
I saw about 10 people riding Wal-Mart supplied
electric scooters and all were extremely over weight except for
one tiny little lady with her portable oxygen supply.

Walmart only has 4. At least the Walmart I shop in does.

Lat night......at Wal-Mart.
There may have not been a total of ten scooters owned by
Wal-Mart but I know I saw at least 10 different people on scooters.

My oldest sister is over 600 pounds. Her legs will not even hold her
up anymore. She has her own scooter but she even relies on it now to
go from the couch to the toilet and back to the couch again in her own
apartment.

A sad way to live IMO.

Any non or marginally relevant cross-post immediately raises a troll flag in
the minds of reasonable people.

That might be true of the Federal government's program, but not necessarily
true of state disability and food assistance programs. The OP was only
relating what he was told by the store manager. The point that was being
made were these people were on some kind of government assistance because
they were too fat to work.

I have seen one store similar to the one that the OP described that had
quite a few scooters, but alas I did not count them. I would not have been
surprised if the store had ten of them.
