Work out ideas besides the gym
I can't afford a gym membership right now, and to tell the truth aren't
really a fan of the atmosphere at most gyms. I prefer to exercise at home, mainly because I feel very self-conscious. I live in a small apartment, so no room for equipment like treadmill, bike, elliptical. Any recommendations for good work outs? I am currently using a program called Push that gives you customized workout on DVD- a new DVD each month for $25/month. Is anyone else familiar with/using this? Would love to trade notes. |

I hate all gym stuff: I walk and I swim. Walking is free once you have the shoes, and swimming is great all over exercise. -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

Work out ideas besides the gym
Kate, nice to find someone who feels anti-gym too. I wish swimming was
an option but I just don't like it and I'm a horrific swimmer. Funny story on that is that I was the one toddler in my swim class who didn't cower to get in at lesson time. Now I can barely do crawl stroke, and to tell the truth don't want to get my hair wet (chlorine is killer on my hair bc I have v. porous hair, and even worse for the hi lites). I'm psyched about Push because I get 2 toning and 1 cardio workouts per DVD, and they are all customized to me. Like having a personal trainer of my own, without a gym membership or trainer fees! Willow, I've just discovered the pleasure of gardening. Hope you enjoyed your time to garden. |

The latter is fun to me but if you don't like music like "Busta Move" and "Party Train" or a very perky instructor, you might not like TJ. I love it. It's the only workout I look FORWARD to doing and MISS if I run out of time. -- Tanukiki (mom of 2 wonderful boys) Pre-baby #2 weight 239 (in 2004) Started WW 01/21/06 Reached 10% 03/18/06 205.4/179.4/150 -- Leader of the Cult of Worshippers of BiPolar Long-Haired Sexy Anime Guys with Swords |

The fibro means I have to keep exercise as low impact as I can: thus the swimming is perfect and walking (no jogging, no running) the next best. Walking on rough land can be hard, but one doesn't always want to stick to paved paths and mown grass! As a kid I used to love gym and all forms of PE, and even played hockey for my school. Now that high impact stuff just results in flare ups and a higher level of pain that I can very easily live without! -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I've heard of them, but I reckon that I know how to walk, and a mile or so as a brisk pace in the fresh air will do me better than listening to a tape or watching a DVD... I managed 50 lengths of the pool today. Not been a good day, really. -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I have two of those tapes and they are good when the weather is really bad. I also prefer walking outdoors even if I'm carrying an umbrella. Audrey |

I mainly work out at night after my kids have gone to bed so DVDs work best for me. It isn't just straight walking...there are 4 basic moves plus low background music and some encouragement and occasional chatter from Leslie Sansone (the instructor) and the cast. I love swimming. I've had a crappy week and have been horrible with the exercise and eating over the last couple of days. I let stress get to me too much. I'm going to spend much quality time gardening this weekend to relieve the stress and get back on board after the weekend when I've regrouped.
