Default Thinking of Joining...

Hello all! Patty from Minnesota USA here.

I've been thinking about joining Weight Watchers, but I'm a little cautious
in terms of price. It would cost about $10 a week for the meetings.

I've never been to a Weight Watchers meeting before. I was wondering what
to expect. Is there nutrition education or is it just a support group? I'm
sure there will be other things I can buy at the meeting--are they worth the
money? It says on WW's website that the first meeting is free and I can
just walk in--is that really OK? (I'm nervous when it comes to meeting new
people.)

I just unsubscribed from an online weight loss group. I lost a little
weight, but I didn't find their community support to be very supportive.
I'd like to lose quite a bit, and I think face to face contact might be more
helpful.

I'm looking forward to your input. Thanks in advance.

Patty

Meetings vary by the leader. I've been to some great meetings with lots of
helpful information and support. Most of the time it's education based with
support thrown in. I've been to the occasional meeting where it's simply a
whining session. The first one is normally free so go try one in your area
and see for yourself.

Hi Patty,

You should go to a meeting and see what you think. Some leaders are
inspirational and very motivating and others can be negative and boring as
hell......The same goes for the people in the group.

What you need to do is maybe try going to a few different meetings and see
if you find one with a leader and members that you will enjoy being around.

YES, you can really just walk in and tell them that you're thinking of
joining and they will let you sit in on a meeting. If you don't like that
particular meeting, then ask them when there will be another meeting with a
different group and leader.

One thing...........what ever you do, don't just pay to step on the scale!
That's not what going to WW is all about!

Good luck!

(snip...) I second what Eddie said! I went to several different meetings
with different leaders until I found the right fit. Now I've been going to
the same meeting consistently for a couple of years...and its helped me lose
91 pounds! The most awesome experience of my life. Go for it!

Thanks Eddie! I was stuck in a terrible plateau, doing the up and down thing
for quite a while. It was taking me 3 months to lose 5 lbs. I finally got
the guts up to try Core and I'm so glad that I did. I am really loving the
Core plan. It has gotten the scale moving in the right direction again and
I'm never hungry. Why didn't I try this sooner? My meeting buddy has lost
170 lbs. Quite remarkable, you know. Looks like you have done quite well
yourself!
