If I weigh myself right when I get out of bed I'm about 7-8 lbs lighter than
when I weigh myself right before bed. Which reading should I be going by?

Pick one and use only that one.

It really doesn't make any difference, pick one time of the day/week/month
and be consistent. It doesn't do any good to compare a wakeup reading with
a bedtime reading if you are looking a a wieght loss trend, apples and
oranges
you know. I wiegh myself weekly, on Saturday morning right after I
get up. It makes me feel a little better since I know that is likely my
lightest
time of the week.

The lower one, of course. And always weigh yourself at the same time.
For me, it's as soon as I get up in the morning, because I seem to lose
the most weight while I sleep.

Old topic. To rehash one factor: CO2 in breath and H2O in breath and
perspiration. A complete metabolism of either fat or carbs results in
only these two molecules anyway. In fact, indirect calorimiters (like
the BodyGem) measure your metabolism by comparing your "in" breath
with your "out" breath.

Plus most people use the toilet before weighing in the morning.

Well you tend to sweat about .5 of a pint into your mattress, so...

Just weigh yourself under the same circumstances, so you can see
whether you are losing, gaining, or stable.

8 pounds?? That's a HUGE difference! Do it in the morning for sure.
