Very discouraged; please help
Having read Beverly's response, I felt I understood better why you were
annoyed, Jen. If somebody corrected my semantics every time I said, "Muscle is heavier than fat" (which I say all the time and anybody hearing it knows exactly what it means, of course), I'd be annoyed too. ep "Jen" wrote in message ... I was a little on-edge after the first answer to the post, and assumed someone was being a smart ar**. I hear it called nothing but weight all the time, and didn't think there was need for an explanation. Everyone says that gold is heavy or lead is heavy. Same thing. I don't think it needs to be explained that a certain weight of something isn't the same weight of something else. I got frustrated. I apologize Jen |

"Jen" wrote in message ... "Del Cecchi" wrote in message ... "Jen" wrote in message ... "determined" wrote in message ... Perhaps you could invest in a heart rate monitor. It will give you a better idea what your heart rate is during these exercises, and a better estimate of how many calories you are burning. A better, more effective way is to use a perceived exertion scale http://exercise.about.com/od/cardiow...d+heart%20rate Jen Too bad this person felt compelled to invent yet another perceived exertion scale rather than use one already defined. Why? Does somebody have on original that works better? Jen There are a couple in wide use. They even refer to them and then go off and invent a new one. Makes it hard to compare with other writings is all. del |

"Beverly" wrote in message ... Edna Pearl wrote: "Beverly" wrote in message ... I even said it with a smiley I think the frustration level is pretty high on this thread. I know mine is! Tempers get lost, people get caught in the crossfire, etc. FWIW, though, I noticed your smiley :-) I figured you were making a funny. Not a *big* funny, maybe, but certainly a smiley-face funny, at the very least. ep I wasn't making a "funny". The reference to muscle weighing more than fat is a frequent comparison make in this newsgroup. It's wrong and most people know that a pound of muscle simply occupies less space than a pound of muscle but then again "most" people state it correctly if they recognize the difference. I was a little annoyed at Jen's response considering her reponse to determined's post to you but I ignored it. To be honest, I could give a rat's ass what Jen thinks .....another smiley! To be pedantic, muscle is denser than fat. But saying "muscle weighs more than fat" is really shorthand for something on the order of "a body of a given size will be heavier if it has a higher proportion of muscle". I bet you get upset when people say that they could care less to mean they are indifferent. :-) del |

Whether I said it properly or not, wasn't really the point, and I felt you were being nasty by pointing it out. Jen |

Either way I think the expression is being widely overused in here, a lot of
people are assuming a lot about others.... generally without having a clue what the h... they are talking about. Check in your mirror friends.. the person in there is the only one you have the knowledge and the right to judge. I don't count calories... I WI once a month, and it works for me... Will~ "teachrmama" wrote in message ... "Nunya B." wrote in message ... "Edna Pearl" wrote in message news What's an "FFID" please? (I enjoyed reading your post, Nunya.) ep It stands for Fat F*** In Denial and is used traditionally to describe someone who complains that there isn't anything he/she can do about his/her weight. It is probably appropriate for plenty of folks who have posted here over the years but lately has become extremely overused. Just another reason I don't post here much anymore. Oh, my! I thought it meant Fat *Friend* In Denial. |

I say that what *works* for you is what you need to do. And when it stops working, you need to make adjustments. I know, for me, getting to know what works for *me* has been a big enough job. I don't havetime to get to know anyone else that well. But, then again, I can only give suggestions about what works for me. And, fi that doesn't work for someone else, that's ok, too. |

So now everyone thinks a pound of feathers is NOT the same weight as a pound of lead! sorry, I couldn't help myself. Jen |

I lived most of my adult life as a FFID. I think I can determine if a person is a FFID based on what they say or write. Besides, a person who is a FFID, or, perhaps more kindly, suffering from a FFID disorder, doesn't know they have a problem. Living in their skin doesn't tell you anything other than the facts the FFID is unhappy and there's always a reason they can't lose weight. Neil, recovering FFID |

Exactly, I don't tell everybody that Weight watchers is the way to go. It's the way that worked for me, I believe in it so much that I now work for them as a leader, yet I know that it doesn't work for everyone. One's success isn't a permit to judge everyone else..
