March is going to be my month to break through
I've been poking along for the past couple months, doing good, but not
putting alot of effort to it all. Missing workouts here and there, overindulging here and there. I gain a little, then lose it, but I keep settling back to the same weight. I only want to lose 3 more lbs, and it seems like those last few are just a bugger. With spring coming, and hopefully nice weather just around the corner, I've decided to make March my month of super efforts. I'm going to really double up on the effort - making sure my workouts are consistant and my eating within a good range. No more fiddle farting around! I just figured if I put it down here, I would be more accountable... |

These events are really keeping me focused--especially since I bombed (choked!) in the broad jump competition. I find I really hate looking like a newbie idiot in front of a lot of people--folks who are about as fit as I am--so I'm really concentrating on doing well, for myself and my team. Hang in there! Amy Yep, still running. I'm finding the progress slow but steady. I just got back from a 5.5 mile run, and am averaging just under 11 minute miles. The problem is, all of my running has been on the darned treadmill, and I know that running in the "real world" is going to be completely different. The weather has been so bad lately, I just don't have it in me to run in 35 degrees and rain. And until the weather improves some, I don't feel like taking my toddler out with the jogging stroller either. So I have been relegated to running on the hamster wheel... My next event is the Shamrock run in 2 weeks... |

I'd rather not risk an injury, so I stick with what's safe. When the snow and ice recedes I'll go back to running outside. -- Check it out! http://www.tcfitnesschallenge.com/index.html |

I'm with you. Just signed up for the St. Paddy's Pacer 5k run sponsored by Gazelle Sports here. First 5k I've ever signed up for (and won't be the last). Starting to seriously train for the Macatawa Triathalon this July, hope to get the running part down by the end of the month... Then on to the swimming and biking portion... No more farting around for me either... Matt V. 510/254/210 (starting weight/current weight/goal weight) New Mini-Goals! Mini-Goal #1 - get my morning jog up 4.8mi by 03/31/07 Mini-Goal #2 - 300lbs total lost by 08/31/07 |

Mini-Goal #1 - get my morning jog up 4.8mi by 03/31/07 Mini-Goal #2 - 300lbs total lost by 08/31/07 Training for an athletic event forces you to focus. As I wrote on my blog: Well, the "How to eat" post came up during the hike, and afterwards during the post-hike breakfast. During the meal Dan suggested I was learning to ride a bicycle to lose weight. I said, perhaps too arrogantly, "I don't need a bike to lose weight. The average person doesn't need it to lose weight." And then the truth hit me. Hard. I'm not an average person. The average person doesn't need to take up bicycling to lose weight. They take it up because it's a fun sport. And as a sport, the more seriously they take it, the more they get out of it. If that means they fine-tune their diet and exercise to better improve their performance, so be it. That's what they do....Yes, the average person could do that and lose weight. A lot of weight, in fact. But I'm not now an average person. I'm a bicyclist. OK, perhaps a budding bicyclist recovering from obesity, but a bicyclist regardless. Which in turn means I'm an athlete. I'm in training for a sporting event, and I need to think differently about how I exercise, how I eat, how I train. When I began to lose weight, I needed to learn to stop thinking and acting like a fat man and start thinking and acting like an average person of normal weight. That's been a struggle, perhaps even more of a struggle than losing weight, and it's a struggle I'm still fighting. Learning to ride my bike, and ride it well, is also going to be a struggle, but I suspect it's going to be a lot easier once I accept that I am an athlete in training. http://historian2wheels.blogspot.com...e-read-on.html Neil 385/252/200 |
