Default Kirstie Alley cheats

From the news:

"I messed up for a few weeks," she writes on her blog
(www.jennycraig.com/kirstie/). "I was traveling extensively and not
exercising enough, and believe me that was not smart and my weight loss,
which was great for a long while -- slowed to just an 'itty-bitty' weight
loss." Alley says she's brought in her former trainer "to knock it up a
notch."

*************

-In other words, she was not exclusively eating food from the program she
promotes.

It is interesting that someone with so very much to gain or lose from diet
results (in terms of career) has been cheating.

I am a strong opponent to cheating, and hate the idea of "cheat days."
IMHO, don't even think about having a birthday cake....

[My original goal, set when I was 300+, was 165, but it seems to cause
trouble with the robochallenge, as one is too near a goal. I was 150
pounds, when I was in college, so that is a good new goal.]

So what would you recommend as a solution to her problem? Don't travel
or don't eat?

She doesn't mention that she gained weight, only that her loss slowed.
Isn't that, circumstances notwithstanding, a "good thing"?

Please....she only admits to not exercising, thus not burning calories. So
if her plan primairly depends on exercise for loss (bad idea), then it only
stands to reason that her loss would slow while traveling.

It's highly debatable that she has much to gain or lose based on her looks.

But ice cream is okay, right?

She should take the Jenny Craig stuff with her.... For someone who can
afford a trainer, travel is not a legitimate excuse for *cheating* on a
program.

I think that in itself would be a problem.

I firmly believe that for most people a healthy weight can be achieved
by healthy attitudes to food and a healthy and active lifestyle.

She should try working on the way she sees and relates to food, rather
than stick religiously to some eating plan which is not practical.

Mind you, it is advertising really and product endorsement.. isn't it?

I think she's gorgeous, even fat. Fuinny, too. What worries me is....if
she loses a lot of weight on JC....that she'll gain it back when she
starts eating regular food. I mean....it's gotta be pretty easy to open
a box and nuke it...no worries over portion control But....how does the
JC program serve to KEEP people thin after they've lost the weight?

Same with all the 'special foods" diets. Whattaya do after the weight
loss?

The other thing that worries me is, she said in an interview tha she
works out an hour a day---that's great....but I doubt she will keep that
up, either.

I think...you probably shouldnt do anything to lose weight you arent
prepared to keep doing, forever.

Every time I see those commercials I want to grab a washcloth and some paint

The reason special diets or programs do not work long-term
Most peop;e view a diet as a way to achieve an objective
such as wieght-loss and abandon it when the goal is achieved.
What is really needed is a lifestyle change, one has to
permeniately
change the way they live.

JC! What a relief! I was beginning to think you didn't care!

I can now die happy. I guess it's time to kill myself?

Why not? An hour out of 24 for exercise isn't that much. How many hours do
people spend on their butts watching TV? And, most of the studies
recommend *at least* an hour of exercise most days of the week for people
who want to maintain their losses.

I find during the summer it's easy enough to spend an hour in the pool at
least 4-5 days a week, and during the rest of the year it's not all that
hard to spend an hour in the gym. Now that I've started working w/ a
trainer, I'm actually spending less time in the gym, but I'm still putting
in the days in the pool when I can.

Last night, my trainer introduced me to a BOSU platform - even if I didn't
have access to a gym - I could get a pretty good strength and/or cardio
workout just w/ one of those in my living room.

Well, I know what you mean, but in order to lose weight, by definition,
you need to eat at a level that is hypocaloric for your total energy
expenditure, which is something you wouldn't really do at maintenance.
