I haven't been posting much lately since I was very busy this summer. Now I
just got back to more exercise, lifting etc. when I was involved in a bad auto accident. I now have a broken sternum and whip lash, very painful. Thank God for pain pills. Most of my injuries where from the seat beat I was wearing which prevented me from going through the wind shield, but it will be a while before I can do any exercise. My weight has been going up since I can't cook much and eating too much fast food which my husband has been getting for us to eat. Yuck. It has been much too easy to just eat what is served then to complain that it is very unhealthy. I hope I can start to clean out the frig and start to eat better food. Down in the dumps Roxan |

Down in the dumps Roxan I hope you have a swift recovery. Even if you can't manage much besides fast food, there are lots of things you can get that aren't too bad like sandwiches from Subway, salads, or grilled chicken sandwiches. I get the taco salads from Taco Bell a lot, without the shell they're only 400 calories. There are also microwaveable dinners you can get that don't require much effort to make and vegetables that are already cut and washed. |

Down in the dumps Roxan Oh, Roxan, how horrible. But you are much better off to rest and recover than to try to exercise. Is it at all possible to ask your hubby to bring you home a grilled chicken salad from the fast food place and keep some of your own dressings at the house that are low in fat and carbs that you can put on top of the salad (instead of using the FF salad dressings that can easily have 300+ cals per packet). I'm sure its hard, but you'll recover quickly and be able to get back into cardio workouts. I know the pain pills really throw you out of whack and make exercise difficult. But, what about a recumbent stationary bike - one that allows you to sit and peddle without any upper body workout at all? Rest up, heal up and you can make up for it all when you are better. |

Down in the dumps Roxan Gosh, that sucks! Accidents are no fun. May your recovery be swift! Well, first off, can your husband cook at all? And if not, could he maybe bring back healthier food than fast food? A lot of fast food places do offer somewhat decent salads these days... and at most grocery stores you can buy a roast chicken. Or nice deli sandwich, sometimes soup. If that's not an option, can he bring you some snack veggies, fruits, tuna, sardines, string cheese, cottage cheese, nuts, things that are relatively easy to eat or prepare but not as damaging as fast food? Sounds like you need to speak up before the food is purchased and give some clear directions. I hope it won't be difficult. I know it's possible that your husband may prefer the fast food he's buying. Or, he may just not know what to get instead. That's where some suggestions might help you both. I don't know exactly what they offer, but an elderly room mate of mine before I moved was using them and said they were tasty. He'd had them suggested to him by his doctor, he was having assorted heart problems. Some of the better frozen dinners might work too. And maybe a stash of frozen veggies could be useful. If hubby can cook... perhaps he could make a large batch of something relatively healthy over the weekend and then freeze portions? That's about all I can think of for now, but I hope things get better. Cynthia 262/240.5/200 first goal |

Hi Roxan, and I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. What a good
thing you were wearing a seat belt. They're compulsory over here but that doesn't mean everyone wears one. If I was in your position, at the mercy of my DH doing the food shopping (which did happen once when I was housebound through injury for a few weeks) I'd probably be living on calorie counted chilled meals that can be heated in the microwave, with fresh veggies added on the side. Many of our stores, including the wonderful Marks & Spencers, do a whole range of reasonably healthy fresh meals, including chicken and fish dishes, which are better than fast food, I would have thought. Do you have anything similar you could do? The pain from your injuries must have been dreadful - I do hope you're soon on the mend. janice 233/161/133 On Wed, 8 Oct 2003 14:35:51 -0400, "roxan" wrote: I haven't been posting much lately since I was very busy this summer. My husband can cook, between taking care of my medical needs, two large
dogs and work, he had his hands full. This week should be better with planning etc. Roxan "Ignoramus792" wrote in message ... Sounds pretty sad, I am sorry aboutit Roxan. Can you teach your husband how to cook? Cooking is very easy actually. i In article , roxan wrote: I haven't been posting much lately since I was very busy this summer. He'd had them suggested to him by his doctor, he was having assorted heart problems. My grandmother used to deliver Meals on Wheels a few times a week. And many times, when i was younger, I'd help her out if I could. There have been a few Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners that we've eaten that were meals on wheels preparations. We got up on the holdiay, delivered the meals to the people on her list, and the company provided her with a few extra meals, so we took those home and ate those for the holiday dinner. And yes, quite tastey. I have to say, looking back, nana is now almost 90 yrs old. And last I knew, she was delivering still. (although her route was smaller). I don't know if she still is doing now, but she still was when she was 88 yrs old. Amazing to think that most the people she delivered to were shutins who were younger than she is. |
