What do you guys do when you just don't feel like getting on that bike,

or
going for that walk, when the cravings hit, and giving in to them is

just so
tempting?

I'm in the middle of midterms, and thus have given myself some leeway in
what I eat, when I eat, and the exercise I do. However, I have no
motivation what so ever to take a half hour break and get on the bike or

go
for a walk, and I do have the time now. The temptation to pick up chips

and
dip on the way home from my last exam as a reward is overwhelming.

I've having that same kind of problem now myself. It seems like you have
to just do things whether or not you feel like them when you start. Once
you actually get outside and start on a walk, you probably will feel
better about it than you did when you started.

If you're strongly craving something, maybe there's a way to fit it in so
you don't end up feeling deprived.

Uh, Just do It? Seriously, there's only a few times that I charge out to
the gym with great enthusiasm. I just do it. But I'm never disappointed
that I went when it's all said and done. Especially when there's stress in
my life (like, ALL THE TIME) exercise is my emotional reset button, so it's
almost a neccessity to go. As for giving into food temptations...well, I
just know that if I gain back a few hard-earned lbs, I'll be totally ****ed
off at myself, and I just can't let that happen. And if it does, then it
only takes a little while before I'm back in loss mode.

i go for that walk. once you start walking, it is usually quite
pleasant.

Recently in Nova Scotia we had a Hurricane (Hurricane Juan)
and we were without power for 2 days (we were lucky by comparison
to most of our friends who took 5-7 days to get their power back).
It brought to my attention that we needed a battery operated radio.

My husband saw that I was hoping to do a bit more walking, and
bought me a very nice short wave radio that is portable and small, and
has earplugs. It was a nice motivation to just get out and enjoy my
own little time listening to the radio. Oftentimes I enjoy walking
without listening to something, but this was a very nice pick-me-up.

When the cravings hit I often find something to keep myself occupied. It's
hard to eat when you have your hands doing something else such as sewing.
A tall glass of Cyrstal Light often satisfies the munchies for me.

When I was into walking and didn't feel like going I would tell myself I
only had to do it for 5 minutes. You'll find that after the first few
minutes you probably don't feel like quitting and will continue with the
exercise.

When I don't feel like exercising I make myself a deal and say I'll
just go for a 15min walk. Once you get into it, you feel better and
end up doing a whole routine. Or you can just keep making deals with
yourself in 5 min increments.

Or, is there something "fun" that you can do as a reward for yourself
instead of food? Something that you might not consider as "exercise"
but more as a fun activity that coincidentally gets your heart rate
up?

Or a smoothie made w/ crystal light and ground ice. Add in some fruit
or yogurt for added flavor. Many times I'll have a smoothie in lue
of icecream.

*tongue in cheek* absolutely, but my boyfriend is busy tonight ;-)

You got my secret message. :-)

But seriously, I know what you mean. I've done 15 minutes on the bike, and
there is the possibility of going dancing to work off some stress.

There you go - Dancing! A celebration. (just watch the alcohol
consumption)

How's this: exercising gets oxygen to your brain and helps you
think and learn. It would take you at least ten minutes to
get the chips and dip; you could walk half a mile in that time
and do your brain and studying ability twice the amount of good,
if not more. If your grocery store is like mine, it would take
20 minutes. Plus the exercise will help you sleep and I heard
a news story today that getting your full night's sleep will help
you remember what you study, while pulling all-nighters practically
guarantees you won't be able to do well on tests.
