What do you guys do when you just don't feel like getting on that bike, or
going for that walk, when the cravings hit, and giving in to them is just so
tempting?

I'm in the middle of midterms, and thus have given myself some leeway in
what I eat, when I eat, and the exercise I do. However, I have no
motivation what so ever to take a half hour break and get on the bike or go
for a walk, and I do have the time now. The temptation to pick up chips and
dip on the way home from my last exam as a reward is overwhelming.

i go for that walk. once you start walking, it is usually quite
pleasant.

drink two glasses of water

Just make sure that you stay within your daily budget.

also, make sure that you are not starving yourself. How many calories
per day do you eat?

I've given myself a range of calories between 1200-1500 calories, and I find
I tend to hit the upper range, the lower range and I feel hungry, the upper
range, I am more satisfied. I'm trying to limit the number of carbs
especially white bread, but not completely cut out.

I know once the stress is gone things will get easier.

Or, is there something "fun" that you can do as a reward for yourself
instead of food? Something that you might not consider as "exercise"
but more as a fun activity that coincidentally gets your heart rate
up?

*tongue in cheek* absolutely, but my boyfriend is busy tonight ;-)

But seriously, I know what you mean. I've done 15 minutes on the bike, and
there is the possibility of going dancing to work off some stress.

There you go - Dancing! A celebration. (just watch the alcohol
consumption)

I'll be driving so no worries there

LOL. Myrrha, I now have a visual of what you look like.

Last night while watching TV a new Ford Focus commercial came on that
compaired the Focus to a Corolla. There was this woman dressed as if
she was getting ready to go dancing, and she's bee-bopping in the
seats of the car. Then she's in the driver seat dancing in her seat.

Fist thought that came to mind was you. :-)

Find another way to reward yourself. When I started my diet, my therapist
advised me to find a way to reward myself that didn't involve food. She
said to make sure I reward myself for doing little things at first like
working out when I didn't feel like it. Like you, I'm pressed for time so
giving myself extra time as a reward wasn't always an option. Didn't want
to buy clothes because it would have become too expensive and the stuff
wouldn't fit long if all went well. I found the dumbest things to reward
myself with: $2 scratch off lottery tickets - the crossword ones that take a
while to do). When I would work out though I didn't feel like it, I earned
a ticket. When I lost a few pounds, got more tickets. Ended up spending
about $6-10 a week for the first few weeks but they served a purpose as a
reward and a distraction. Sometimes I'd actually win a few bucks.

Just a suggestion. HTH.

I think Jenn is onto something. Everyone has something besides food that
they are prone to splurge on but not have no real use for. Magazines,
paperback novels, pretty socks (some of us love socks for unknown reasons
and they fit through multiple pounds), lipstick or other cosmetics, CD's, a
long distance phone call, a rented movie, a scented candle, etc. BF seems
to get unduly excited about things bought at radio shack. My son thought
the best gift I bought him recently was a car deodorizer thingy. If you
like sports, hours and hours can be spent at Sports Authority. Same goes if
you like fishing - I get excited about a full tackle box with pretty plastic
worms as I do not like live bait. Stress is exhausting. No wonder you
don't feel like exercising! If midterms were gonna last forever, I'd say
suck it up but usually they schedule them at odd times and you are
sleepless, etc. If I were to set your priorities, I would definitely opt
for sleep over exercise for this week, anyway.
