Default Help I've fallen and I'm eating my way up!

I'm taking a training break this week. I have managed to do a cardio
workout every single day, but somehow avoiding the weight room has turned
into spending that time eating, instead. I've had three, yes, THREE
pieces of pie today. (Pie for breakfast, pie for dessert and then pie for
second-dessert.) Damn those pies, there's still 2/3 of one left. And
it's pumpkin, which is possible to rationalize into being a
vegetable/dairy combination.

Could someone come over here and slap me, please?

At least pumpkin is one of the best pies out there, diet-wise (custard is
pretty OK too)! Pumpkin is low in calories, and pumpkin pie doesn't
have a tremendous amount of sugar. You're getting lots of vitamin A,
a little protein from the couple of eggs, some calcium from the
evaporated milk, and not TOO many calories, as far as pie goes. It's damn
tasty, too.

You can have a slap if you come wrestle the turkey legs away from me.
I've eaten nothing but turkey and chocolate chip cookies for the last 5
days. I am dreading tomorrow's weigh-in, the first in about a month
(things have been that bad).

Hope everyone had a nice holiday/weekend!

nasty things as brownies, fudge brownie pie, pecan pie, sweet potato
bread, sweet potato souffle, a pumpkin roll, and chocolate chip cookies

Smack!! Put the pie in the freezer or stuff it in the garbage disposal.
After Christmas at my house there is always food left that the relatives
didn't want to take home with them. I hate to say this but most of it goes
in the garbage disposal . I'm like you - if it's around I'll eat it.

Well, at least you are burning some calories with the cardio work out --
and one way or another the pie will soon be gone.

Pie was also my downfall this week. Fortunately for me, Turkey Day was
at my parent's house. I did really well until my aunt served dessert.
I had planned on eating one small piece of something (for me it's not
about denial, it's about balance). Anyway, my aunt is from out of town
and she did not know the process that we usually follow which is bring
desserts to table, people say what they one (one small piece, no side
stuff) and she put one piece of pumpkin pie and one piece of cake on
each plate and brought the *plates* to the table. Once it was in front
of me, I had a hard time. This, despite the fact that I really don't
like my grandmother's pumpkin pie at all (sacrilege to some, I know).
Ack!

Overall I must have done OK as I am down one pound from where I was a
week ago.

P.S. After dinner my grandmother said, did you notice that the pie was
different? The spices were so expensive that I decided to skip some. ARG!

Well, as of today - I'm back ON the wagon... At least that is what I
keep telling myself to keep myself motivated.

My pumpkin pie is now gone. But, when I made it I started with a
store bought graham cracker crust and the insides I made using SPlenda
and milked down sweetened condensed milk...

But BF and I finished off the last 2 pieces of pie last night. Also
the poor excuse of 7 layer bars were finished too. (recipe gone bad).

Of the turkey day leftovers we still have Turkey, sweet potatoes (in
the nude) and home made cranberry sauce left. (cranberry sauce made
w/ raw cranberries, cooked in water/splenda and thickend w/
cornstarch. Adding 1 diced apple and a bit of OJ for flavor).

All in all, the only leftovers left now are the "healthy" ones.
So, I'm on a low carb kick for a few weeks to get back into shape.

The hard part now, to return to exercise!

I'm in your boat - I have 1/2 of a pecan pie and a whole pumpkin pie left...
I made both of them. What was I thinking??? But, I've decided today - the
gluttony stops HERE! I'm cleaning out the high calorie foods and this week
is my induction of sorts back into weightloss mode. Low cal and low carb
all week. I've gained way more than I wanted to, and I've been eating like
a real pig. So, lets all jump back on the wagon this week, okay?

Were you feeding really a lot of people?? I mean, I'm fine with
indulging on a holiday, but this would be a week or two's worth of
indulging if DH and I fixed it for just ourselves. Even when I was
young and we had big family Thanksgiving dinners with 10-15 people, we
never had more than two pies and some ice cream for sweets.

indulgence -- but who bought a turkey today so as to have turkey
leftovers)

Two pies for 15 people is very reasonable (though my mom requested two
pies just for herself--she's a thin woman with a huge sweet tooth). All
of the stuff I baked was for a bunch of people, to be taken to, and left
at, their houses (we went to 3 on Thanksgiving). There were leftover
ingredients so I made a pumpkin pie and sweet potato bread and pumpkin
roll to take in to work just because I didn't want the naughty stuff,
even if canned, in the house.

Fortunately, even though I am a sugar freak, I don't like pie too much (I
like pumpkin pie filling) so I was OK with baking all of these pies. My
indulgence was turkey, turkey, and more turkey. Yum!

A good indulgence, and a wise purchase! Thanksgiving just doesn't seem
like Thanksgiving unless there's some leftover turkey.

-Alison, whose best friend's family used to make 2 pies PER PERSON for
holidays (ack!)
