Default Is this the group for me?

"I need to follow a program of low carb, low sodium and about a 1500
calorie limit. Is anyone here on a program similar to this or can
anyone give me some tips. I know Im going to have to start cooking
more instead of relying on canned and frozen goods and meals like I
have been."

Thanks
Carol in WV

Hang in there. My mother battles diabetes, high chlorestorol, high
blood pressure. She has survived a stroke and breast cancer. The
biggest thing that she battles is managing a 1250 calorie limit being
low carb and low sodium. Some days are a challenge. The biggest
thing to get geared up for is the craving for the easy foods. I hope
that you find a lot of good recipes and helpful hints on this site.
My suggestion is to fall in love with vegetables. It has helped when
the only thing on your mind is a big bag of Lay's potato chips.

Hi Cheri,

Many people find that once they start an established, recognized

low-carb
diet plan like Atkins or Protein Power, that the weight drops

*reasonably*
fast (especially at first), and that their hunger limits itself to

healthful
levels. That happened for me and I know others will say the same. In

other
words, it may not be necessary for you to count calories.

I didn't write the above post Mike, a newly diagnosed diabetic did.
I've been here for many years, and have been LC for years as well due
to diabetes. However, even though my hunger is under control, I always
have to count calories. YMMV :-)

Cheri, I am looking forward to hearing one of your low-carb salad

dressing
recipies. Can you get one to me over the next few days so that I can

prepare
it for thanksgiving?

Mike

Go here
http://www.camacdonald.com/lc/LowCar...ng-Recipes.htm click
on salads and salad dressing. Lots of great recipes there from this
group. I do have a good one from a restaurant I used to work at. I
will dig it out later and post it. Take care.

Um, well, yeah and no. I have the health I've been able to salvage out
of the adverse effects of decades of medical matreatment and
pituitary/adrenal problems. Folks with Cushing's syndrome, PCOS,
Prader-Willi, glucocorticoid resistance syndromes get fat and suffer
severe effects no matter how diligently they take care of themselves.

So, congrats to those folks lucky enough to get good, predictable
results from diet and exercise. Some of us just manage to avoid gaining
weight with diet, and actually add fat due to cortisol elevations from
exercise. Mainstream dietary recommendations DO tend to promote the
endocrine conditions that worsen obesity and all health risks in these
groups.

To the OP and any others who've struggled despite diligent good efforts,
don't let anyone blame you or judge you for it.

Susan

Of course we all start from different health points. What I meant was
that you are responsible for how your diet affects your condition. I
hope that this formulation is more readily accepted. If you smoke, drink
alcohol and eat unhealthy food just to fall to one "welfare disease" or
another, it is just not good enough to state that "I didn't know" or
"everyone else was doing that". That was what I meant.
