Week 4 update
Week 4 update
Weight: 85 kg (cca 187 lbs), which means: - I *gained* 0.5 kg (cca 1.1 lbs) in a week, & - loss of 4 kg/8.8 lbs in 4 weeks. Measurements: - breasts: 102 cm (lost 5 cm altogether) - waist: 84 cm (lost 1 cm / lost 4 cm altogether) - belly button: 93 cm (3.5 cm / lost 10.5 cm altogether) - hips: 115 cm (lost 1 cm / lost 3 cm altogether) - thigh: 62 cm (lost 2 cm altogether) - calf: 39 cm (lost 0.5 cm / lost 2 cm altogether) According to Fitday, the average carb intake for week 4 was = 74, or 22%. I Average calories burned through exercise per day were = 299 cal/day. Forms of exercise: - walking = 4//7 - swimming = 4/7 BMI = 33.1 / 31.7 (up 0.2% / 1.4% altogether) BF% = 31.1% / 25.8%* ( down 4% / down 5.3% altogether) * how accurate do you think is this? I got that number from http://www.biofitness.com/bodyfat.html. Losing 5.3% of the body fat in 4 weeks just seems too much, especially since I gained, not lost, during the last week, so I'm kind of wondering if the numbers are right (I know I did the measurements the way I'm supposed to!) First of all, the holiday according to which I've set my mini-goal has been moved up to August 22nd, so I will do the "final" weigh-in then (Sunday). Second of all - I guess the high carb intake explains why the 0,5 kg weight gain this week :-( Obviously my high carb days were *too carb high*. This week's goal is to have only 1 high carb day the entire week. I already decided for it to be Saturday, when I go shopping for the new swimming suit. We're planning a lunch at the Chinese restaurant - I plan to stay clear of the dumplings, sauces, fried things and desserts, though! -, increase the water intake and callisthenics (plus the walking/swimming). I'm very busy planning for our family holiday, and I am already kind of worried how will that go food- and exercise-wise, especially now when I saw that I gained, not lost. I certainly don't want to add to that while away! We're spending a holiday with my cousin and her mother, and you know how these family gatherings are - full of eating opportunities! DH & I already decided to make healthy choices like fish (we're going on an island in the Adriatic, where my aunt has her summer house) and plenty of fresh veggies. And lots of walking/hiking/sightseeing/swimming/snorkelling... Maybe that will work :-) Elly breastfeeding mom of a 10mo, following the balanced low carb WOE Mid July 2004: 195.8 / 187 / mini-goal by August 22nd: 184.8 (to 187 lbs- reached) sometime in the (distant) futu 150 lbs |

You're doing great, Elly. Just stick to your plan of eating healthier on
the trip and you'll be fine. I recently returned from a short vacation and I found the extra walking, etc was enough to offset the additional calories I consumed. Of course, I tried sticking to a healthy WOE but I do remember a few junk foods slipping into my mouthg Beverly "Elly" wrote in message ... Yes, you are doing fine. Your gain is probably water. One thing though,
I've looked at some of your entries and it seems like your calorie intake is really low. I understand everyone is different, but I'm eating around 1800 calories a day and losing weight faster than I anticipated. I dunno, just something to think about. Congrats on the weight lost! Don't worry about 1 or 2 pound fluctuations as long as the general trend is going down. Wishing you the best! Jen 210/200/140 |

I understand everyone is different, but I'm eating around 1800 calories a day and losing weight faster than I anticipated. I dunno, just something to think about. My GP/nutritionist has sat a 40 grams of carbs/day for me - and if I ate around 1800 calories, they would come from much more than 40 grams of carbs/day. I looked into that - I sometimes go near that mark when I have my 2 high carb days/week - then I go almost to the 1800 cals, but also the allowed carb count is much over 100 grams/day (it can't be avoided - my high carb days include whole wheat pasta (100 grams = cca 60+ grams of carbs), or black rice (100 grams = cca 72 grams of carbs), or whole wheat sandwiches (if I have 2 sendwitches, bread alone is 60 grams of carbs), or cheese, mushrooms or veggie pizza (a small one is cca 80 grams of carbs). So you see, if I aimed all the time to be near the 1800 cals/day, that would mean that I'm *way* over my carb count limit *all the time* - and it just wouldn't work for me. My GP/nutritionist thinks I should primarily watch the carb count. It worked well for me in the past (went from 177 to 150 in a couple of months and maintained until I got pregnant - and even then I wasn't putting much weight on - I gained 35 lbs during the pregnancy, the postpartum period was my downfall). Congrats on the weight lost! Don't worry about 1 or 2 pound fluctuations as long as the general trend is going down. Wishing you the best! Jen Thanks, Jen. I stepped on the scales today again (I know I shouldn't have, due to my decision to have weekly weigh-ins), and it said 84 kg/184.8 lbs. So it's possible that it was just water weight! I'll wait for the official weigh-in before I consider this a "true" weight, though; in the mean time, I'll use it as a motivation (will you believe me when I say that seeing my weight go up instead of down was *so* depressing and non-motivational?) Oh, and I made it to my denim - they're my "fat denim", but still I haven't been able to wear them postpartum because of the pouch sticking out :-) Elly |
