Eat To Live: Atkins diet back on top
Just once I want to read about a study that's actually about doing what the directions say for Atkins and not this made up crap about eliminating veggies and such! I know what you mean. I couldn't stop myself from writing a long, angry, futile letter to a doctor who appeared on a tv show to spout 'comparative' nonsense about several diet options. He was so behind the times on "high protein" diets. He still stated that the Atkins diet shoots for zero carbs, doesn't allow or encorage fiber and is high protein, favoring processed meats. He sounded like a usenet troll that someone let out from under the bridge, rather than a medical doctor specializing in nutrition. I had fantasies of being in the audience and jumping out of my chair to set him straight. |

Eat To Live: Atkins diet back on top
In article . com,
"Diarmid" wrote: When his study is published this week, it will show of the four regimes under review, the Atkins diet resulted in the greatest weight loss -- with no indication of undesirable side-effects. A perfect example of the media and other people who want to make the results sound impressive when they were not. 10 lbs in an entire YEAR was the best any of the diets could do? All of the diets in this study failed to experience meaningful weight loss. The difference between the best and worst diet being approx 5lbs over an entire year, means they are all essentially the same and not very effective. But wait, there's more... So why were they all so poor at causing weight loss? The fact is, none of the people actually followed the diets exactly, and this showed most popular diets are hard for most people to follow. Here is the lead researcher of this study in his own words on NPRs Science Friday podcast: http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podca...siteId=4822271 Look for the show released 3/9/07 -- Will @ www.BrinkZone.com "It twas ever thus " - Mr Natural |

These low-carb people are trying to get healthy only through diet. So you haven't read the book, don't know the slightest what the actual directions are, but you post such opinions anyways. While exercise may be listed in their plan, they sell these "diet" books with food eating gimmicks. And I would bet the large percentage (well over half -- 80%) of their followers, only implement the [easy] eating portion. Would you not take that bet? Is your level of expertese the same on many other topics you discuss? Yes, my _expertise_ is about the same on most topics I discuss. Ignorance is curable through education. You need to read the book. No, I don't. I get my education from reputable sources. And I put that education in practice everyday. Care to compare body/fitness stats? Hint - There isn't a popular low carb diet that fails to require regular exercise. See above. "Low-carb" is silly for anyone who follows a fitness plan. Patrick |

Thanks for the insight! I'll take the bet. -- Bob in CT |
