Nunya B. wrote: Hello everyone, I have been lurking more than posting lately. Things are busy around here. Congrats to those who have lost this week, those who are frustrated - hang in there! To those who are departing on well-deserved vacations, have a great time! I leave in a few days for a major volleyball tournament out-of-town (referee not player). Ways I plan to be OP while on my trip are to bring packets of instant oatmeal, protein shakes (vanilla ones that mix well with diet coke), a large bag of apples and grapefruit, and some microwave popcorn. I won't have a fridge or micro but might have access to a micro somewhere at the hotel. The arena won't allow outside food and I won't eat concession crap hence the shakes which are easily smuggled. I'll also be doing some "fine dining" while there but I'll make reasonable choices and limit portions. I'll have my pedometer and plan to do lots of walking like I usually do when I travel. I'm also packing my yoga mat to work on some routines for my new NSV. The gym I use has morning yoga classes but no evening ones. I've been telling the new owner for a while now that there should be an evening one for people who have to work during the day. Today I was at the morning class and afterward he pulled me aside and asked if I would be interested in teaching an evening yoga class starting this fall! For most of my life I could never really picture being active let alone athletic. The last 3 years of no longer being over 300 lbs. has helped me become the athlete I wanted to be. This is just the jewel in that crown, that someone actually would consider having me lead a physical activity like yoga. I don't know if I'll even be lurking while gone so if you don't hear from me, have a wonderful week and 4th of July holiday. -- the volleyballchick So that's why you call yourself the valleyballchick!!! Your not in SC are you. Every Yogi I have ever met with seems to think that I can practice in the way others do. Oh they might modify it some, but I always come away feeling less than.... Congrats and happy U.S. birthday. Ralph |

Yep. I played on a team from Sept-Mar for the last few years and have recently been drafted to referee. I'm still not 100% sure which I'll be doing this winter. I like to play, but only with teams that don't take themselves seriously. I do enjoy refereeing and am doing it all summer long plus during the school season in the fall. Your not in SC are you. Every Yogi I have ever met with seems to think that I can practice in the way others do. Oh they might modify it some, but I always come away feeling less than.... Nope. I will not consider myself a Yogi no matter what. I've been putting together some basic beginner routines as I plan to gear the class toward the beginner. I am hoping that I can convey to my students the individuality of the yoga practice. It's not a competition and no one should compare themselves to anyone else in the class. I actually found a few interesting yoga books at a discount bookstore this week so I'm hoping to glean some ideas from those too. If you are seriously interested in doing yoga, there are some books out there that cover yoga for men, older people, and yoga for larger people (not saying you're either of the last two just that I've seen those variations). -- the volleyballchick |
