Default protein

how much protein is too much? i used the nutrawatch thing and, although they
don't always have the foods on their list and so i have to choose something
only similar to what i've earn, for the past two days i have been over my limit
by *half.* i'm only supposed to have 33 grams and i keep eating around 60g, due
to about 2 servings dairy, 1 serving nuts, and 1 small serving of poultry/fish.
is this really too much? nuts and low-fat dairy products keep me satisfied,
where snacking on carbs, or building a meal out of mostly carbs, does not. i
don't really know how to cut back to only 33g. and the thing is, i don't
usually make it past my calorie limit.

well, so far today, for example:

2 slices of spelt bread; 1 with about 1 tbsp of cottage cheese and tomato, the
other with a small amount of Earth Balance spread.

1 cup vegan vegetable soup, 'homemade' at a local cafe (spinach, broccoli,
corn, carrots, mushrooms, etc.)

1 strawberry banana smoothie, with about 1 cup skim milk (only those
ingredients and no added syrup or sugar or anything like that)

1/2 open faced sandwich: apple slices, chicken, one-half slice cheddar cheese,
a little honey mustard, wheat roll (this ends up to be about 1/4 of the roll).

i think this is only about 800 calories, but already 58 grams of protein.

It's too much when it takes up calories you need for other nutrients. You
only need about 4 oz of meat, chicken, or fish a day to get all your protein
and most of the iron and cyanocobalamin you need.

I think it takes quite a lot of protein to actually be too much. Who
says you're only supposed to have 33 grams? You can get all sorts of
opinions on this if you look around, but that seems uncommonly low. I
always try for at least 100g a day, myself. (I'm female, 56, into
weightlifting, weigh ~140, consume ~1500 calories a day.)

it was only on the nutra watch thing. i'm really just using it to see how many
calories i'm eating and not the rest of the stuff, but i noticed that it was
only allowing me 33 grams on a 1300 calorie diet. like i said, i've only had
one serving of chicken, 1/2 slice of cheese, 2 tbsp cottage cheese. other
protein, yes, but not much else. that doesn't sound like too much protein to
me.

Actually, Sarandipidy has gotten most of her protein today from nuts
and dairy. Four ounces of chicken breast would give her 32g of
protein, essentially hitting her daily limit without any dairy, any
nuts, any legumes, or any of the smaller amounts of protein one gets
from grains, fruits, and veggies. This is unrealistic.
