Martin Luther's Birthday today
I still read the posts on this group but have given up posting the ins
and outs of my everyday diet. I lost the ten pounds I wanted to lose and as long as I dont overeat it might even stay off. I have got ten down to a size 10 and I am going to boil the J Crew corderoys I bought recently in a size 12 and hope that shrinks them up a bit. Of course, the weight didnt come off in the right places. For instance, my behind seems to have disappeared and probably some muscles too. FitDay seems to think that I need 2426 calories just to maintain my weight. So consuming 1000 calories a day did it for me and getting into a routine that approximates that for life doesnt seem onerous. That means no pizza slices, no cake, no bottles of wine during the week, little cheese and things like that alas. I find it really difficult to keep up an exercise regime because other activities are often more demanding even though I know how vital exercise is and how good it makes me feel. Some one posted on this site about how she used a rowing machine because her knees were shot. I tried the rowing machine yesterday at the gym and found an interesting site on the Internet and think I am going to participate, after I learn how to make the correct choices on the rowing machine of course. If anyone knows please let me know. http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/log_start.asp? I thank the people who have inspired me on this site, especially Chris and her wine, and someone else who gave me a heads up on calories. |

That would be me. The rowing machine is good for my knees because it exercises the major leg muscles under load but without impact, and while keeping the hips, knees and feet in line. My problem was misaligned kneecaps. Keeping my major leg muscles in good condition fixes it, but I have to be sure to keep my legs in a vertical plane, and I can't run or do anything else with high impact as the inner surfaces of my knees are starting to wear. But I'd suggest trying several things at the gym to decide what works for you. My physio suggested the cross-trainer, but my knees hurt if I use it with any intensity. The physio also said to be cautious about the treadmill, but I find that a walking pace on a high incline gives me a good workout with no knee pain afterwards. I also use the various leg resistance machines, but cautiously, with low weights and not too many repetitions. -- Those who are mentally and emotionally healthy are those who have learned when to say yes, when to say no and when to say whoopee.
