Default eating before sleep?

snip good stuff about wasting food
In the good old days, people
always took any leftovers home or before dog food, everyone had dogs
that ate this food, or pigs so nothing got wasted. At a local
restaurant which is in fact a pizza buffet, I asked if they use the
not-eaten pizza for hogs or something, but they don't. This idea is a
continuim of the throw-away society we live in.

I don't know about where you live, but here in UK anything in a food
establishment that has gone out on a plate to a customer must be either
eaten by the customer or thrown away in the appropriate disposal for food
waste. Feeding waste to animals is strictly forbidden, since major economic
damage was caused by an animal disease which got into livestock from
infected meat being thrown away.

I too try not to waste food by only putting on my plate what I think I will
eat. But if I get it wrong, which I sometimes do, then for me the best
thing is not to eat it, even if that means throwing it away. Of course if
it can be put away for consumption later then I do so. I refuse to feel
guilt or remorse about wasting food when the alternative of eating it is bad
for my health.
