Take short, brisk walks (15 min) when possible - 3 15 min walks = 45 min of
exercise. If you get a break between classes, commit to spending some of it
just walking. Use the stairs instead of elevators. How much time do you
take for lunch each day? Plan to bring a decent, portable meal that can be
eaten nearly anywhere and walk during lunch time, eat in class if possible
when you're stuck sitting (though I know some teachers might not go for it
so you have to adjust).

Eventually you will find that you have more energy and can get things done
quicker, thus giving you more time to take longer walks or do more
structured workouts. Does the school have workout facilities? I remember
having a day where I'd get an hour between classes. I would use the time to
study, but I really enjoyed taking walks around campus with friends. Once
in an all day meeting we had an hour break for lunch and it was 10 degrees
outside. My friend grabbed a quick salad from the offerings and then she
and I walked laps inside the building. We'd planned only 5-10 minutes to
get me away from the food (I was just starting my diet), but ended up
walking for 40 minutes. People in their cubicles waved to us on every lap


Look at your schedule a week in advance (classes, work, social engagements,
etc.) and see what time is left in the day. Make a budget of that time and
a plan to spend x number of minutes at this time working out. I have a very
full schedule myself and when I look at my upcoming week I decide "this day
I can get to the gym at this time, this day I can't so I need to get up
early and take a run, etc."

Include boyfriend in walks, then you can use boyfriend time for exercise
too.

Well, you may have great reasons why you can't exercise (it seems so),
but they won't help you get slimmer. Losing weight without exercise is
a very bad idea -- you lose lean body mass, then regain, and by then
you are just a blob of fat with little muscle etc. Much harder to lose
weight next time.

Is there any chance to take fewer classes or less work hours?


unfortunately no, my classes are set, it's a full time program, and my last
year, the classes are not optional, trust me if they were, I'd be dropping
one or two of them As for work, again, no, if I don't work, I can't
afford school, eating, any sort of rudimentary social life.

Can you
walk or run in early morning etc? Running may be helpful if you run
for, say, 40 minutes per day. Calorically it will be equal to 2 hours
of walking. Beware though that you can injure your joints if you are
not prepared, run theough injury, etc. Be careful with
running.


I have tried running, but it tends to leave me more sore, and less motivated
to do anything. Maybe when I drop a few pounds my feet knees and back won't
yell at me so much.

Walking however is completely safe. Other people will tell
you all you need to know about resistance training, which you need also.

I do walk, I take stairs, and never take elevators at school. Car is parked
at the far end of the parking lot and it's like a 15 minute walk just to the
closest building. So that's a start. Walking is a deffinate option, and
with a little determination, and ass kicking, I do occassionally have breaks
in my classes and can go for a half hour or hour walk (usually)

The sad thing is .... I know all about exercise and stretching, I give it
to my clients all the time, "you need to strengthen this part of you, here's
how you do it" Guess it's time to listen to myself when I talk

Good. Are you also making plans to exercise a lot? At your weight, you
have excellent ability to exercise.

Also, expect your progress to be difficult.

I like your approach of eating anything you want, but in limited
quantity, counting total calories one way or another. I lost 46 lbs
this way...

Hi Myrrha. Good luck. I'm 29 and 5'4" too, but I have a hell of a lot more
to lose than you. This group is great for keeping up your motivation, so
